Medical errors are one of the leading causes of death and injury in radiation therapy administration as reported in the literature. This point out an overall deficiency in management allowing patient treatment in the absence of suitable quality assurance processes. International audience; Maths for Business is a first-year mathematics module for approximately 500 non-mathematics specialists. It has continuous assessment consisting of ten weekly quizzes, worth 40% of the final mark. In 2016/17, students who did not receive the maximum five marks on their weekly quiz were offered the opportunity to resubmit their quiz, with correction(s) and an explanation of their error(s), for one additional mark. The induced smoothed LASSO

We propose a new lasso-type estimator of regression coefficients for regression models. Our proposal relies on the recent idea of induced smoothing and leads to estimators with sampling distribution somewhat close to the Normal one, regardless of their true value, along with the corresponding reliable covariance matrix. As a consequence inference (e.g. p-values) may be carried out relatively easily. We present results from some simulation experiments.

As phonetic errors are foreseeable, this paper begins by delineating deviations in (co)articulation and prosody which are typical of Italian learners of German, with the aim of examining how far these specific, predictable phonetic problems are treated in German textbooks used in Italy. Purpose: To study the association of parents’ reports about their children’s near work and outdoor habits with myopia in their children. Methods: Data from a questionnaire study conducted in 1983 among Finnish schoolchildren were reanalyzed. Vision screening had been performed for all the schoolchildren (n = 4961) in the 1st, 5th, and 8th grades (7-, 11-, and 15-year-olds) in an area of Central Finland. Angļu valodas centralizētais eksāmens 12. klasei sastāv no atsevišķām sadaļām katras valodas prasmes pārbaudei, bet rakstīšanas daļa sevī ietver vairāku prasmju pārbaudi. Rakstīšana un gramatika ir cieši saistītas. Šī pētījuma mērķis ir reģistrēt un klasificēt 12. klases skolēnu pieļautās gramatiskās kļūdas 2014. un 2015. gada centralizēto angļu valodas eksāmenu esejās. Diskursa analīze ir galvenā šī darba pētījuma metode. Pētījuma ietvaros tika analizētas simts esejas un noteiktas tajās esošās biežākās gramatiskās kļūdas un to cēloņi. High-precision measurement of a low Q value for allowed β−-decay of 131I related to neutrino mass determination

The ground-state-to-ground-state β−-decay 131I (7/2+) → 131Xe (3/2+) Q value was determined with high precision utilizing the double Penning trap mass spectrometer JYFLTRAP at the IGISOL facility. The Q value of this β−-decay was found to be Q = 972.25(19) keV through a cyclotron frequency ratio measurement with a relative precision of 1.6 × 10−9. This was realized using the phase-imaging ion-cyclotron-resonance technique. The new Q value is more than 3 times more precise and 2.3σ higher (1.45 keV) than the value extracted from the Atomic Mass Evaluation 2020.
