Characterization of hydroxyaromatic compounds in vegetable oils by capillary electrophoresis with direct injection in an oil-miscible KOH/propanol/me…

2005

The separation of hydroxyaromatic compounds in vegetable oils, including synthetic antioxidants (3-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyanisol and 2,6-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxytoluene), E-vitamers and other natural oil components, by nonaqueous capillary electrophoresis in an oil-miscible background electrolyte (BGE) was investigated. The BGE contained 40 mM KOH in a methanol/1-propanol (PrOH) mixture (15:85 v/v). The oil samples were 1:1 diluted with PrOH and directly injected in the capillary. Under negative polarity (cathode at the injection end), the anionic solutes moved faster than the electroosmotic flow, being well-resolved among them and from the triacylglycerols. Using virgin palm, extra virgin oliv…

Identification of Abies sibirica L. Polyprenols and Characterisation of Polyprenol-Containing Liposomes

2020

The needles of conifer trees are one of the richest sources of natural polyprenols. Polyprenol homologs from Abies sibirica L. lipophilic 80% purified extract were analyzed and quantified. In total, 10 peaks (Prenol-11 to Prenol-20) were observed in the ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography&ndash

Different sample treatment approaches for the analysis of T-2 and HT-2 toxins from oats-based media.

2010

A LC-DAD method is proposed for the determination of the T-2 and HT-2 toxins in cultures of Fusarium langsethiae in oat-based and other in vitro media. Test media consisted of freshly prepared milled oats to which T-2 and HT-2 toxin stock solutions were added. Different mixtures of extraction solvent (acetonitrile:water and methanol water), extraction times (30', 60' or 90') and drying methods were investigated. Results showed that extraction with methanol: water (80:20, v/v) for 90 min, drying with N-2 and subsequent analysis by LC-DAD was the fastest and most user friendly method for detecting HT-2 and T-2 toxins production by F. langsethiae strains grown on oat-based media at levels of 0…

Evaluation of the enhanced resistance of Ogataea (Hansenula) polymorpha to benzalkonium chloride as a resource for bioremediation technologies

2019

Abstract Benzalkonium chloride (BAC) is highly abundant in wastewaters due to its wide application in household and industrial products. The aim of this research was to compare the resistance of two genetically related strains, Ogataea polymorpha (wild type) and O. polymorpha cat8Δ (recombinant strain), to enhanced concentrations of BAC (≥ 100 mg/L) in terms of its appearance in wastewaters. Inhibition of the respiration activity of wt and cat8Δ by 100 mg/L and 300 mg/L BAC in a xylose-containing broth (4 g/L xylose) was dependent on the carbon source used for obtaining the yeast biomass through ethanol fermentation. The respiration activity of wt in a liquid broth was inhibited by BAC, whi…

Electrooxidation of methyl alcohol with Ni-Co catalyst

2018

Due to development of the renewable energy sources, the powering of fuel cells (FCs) with bio-fuels is very important. The one of this fuel is methyl alcohol. The use of fuel cells on a large scale is mainly limited by the high cost of catalysts – mainly platinum. Elimination of Pt as catalyst would allow for wider commercial application of FCs. The paper presents a study of methyl alcohol electrooxidation on electrode with NiCo alloy catalyst. Researches were done by the method of polarizing curves of electrooxidation of methanol in glass vessel. Conducted measurements show that there is a possibility of electrooxidation of methanol with Ni-Co catalyst. In any case, the process of electroo…

Stable polymorphism for mutant eye colour geues in populations of Drosophila melanogaster in two different media

1988

In previous work analyzing variability of eye colour alleles existing in natural populations of D. melanogaster, it was observed that the number of females heterozygous for some eye colour alleles was greater in a wine cellar population than in populations outside this cellar. In order to determine which mechanisms caused these eye colour alleles to be favored in the heterozygotes, the changes in the frequency of four eye colour alleles frequently seen in the cellar population (se77o, sf77m, cd77o and multichromosomal 77o) was studied in artificial populations. Two different culture media, one supplemented with 10% ethanol and the other without ethanol were used. It was found that each of t…

Differential Contribution of the Parental Genomes to a

2019

In European regions of cold climate, S. uvarum can replace S. cerevisiae in wine fermentations performed at low temperatures. S. uvarum is a cryotolerant yeast that produces more glycerol, less acetic acid and exhibits a better aroma profile. However, this species exhibits a poor ethanol tolerance compared with S. cerevisiae. In the present study, we obtained by rare mating (non-GMO strategy), and a subsequent sporulation, an interspecific S. cerevisiae × S. uvarum spore-derivative hybrid that improves or maintains a combination of parental traits of interest for the wine industry, such as good fermentation performance, increased ethanol tolerance, and high glycerol and aroma productions. G…

Effectiveness of low flow vascular lesions sclerosis with monoetanolamine: Report of six cases

2007

Vascular malformations or even hemangiomas need therapeutic intervention if they start to cause clinical symptoms or personal discomfort. Different therapeutic modalities, including cryotherapy, corticosteroids, laser therapy, sclerotherapy, surgery, and/or embolization, can be performed successfully. Sclerotherapy with monoethanolamine is a relatively simple and effective method to treat low flow vascular lesions. We presented a report of six cases of vascular malformations treated with monoethanolamine. There were 3 male and 3 female patients, with an age range of 20 to 68 years. The patients were submitted to applications according to clinical response and/or tolerability. In all cases, …
