Tunability by alkali metal cations of photoinduced charge separation in azacrown functionalized graphene.

2013

A modified graphene oxide containing aza-9-crown-3 ether units covalently anchored has been prepared; aqueous suspensions of this material in the presence of Li(+), Na(+) and K(+) cations exhibit enhanced electrochemical response, enhanced photoinduced charge separation and longer lifetimes, facts that can be attributed to stabilization of electrons on graphene oxide by the nearby alkali metal cation-azacrown complexes.

Copper(i) complexes for sustainable light-emitting electrochemical cells

2011

Four prototype heteroleptic copper(I) complexes [Cu(bpy)(pop)][PF6] (bpy = 2,2′-bipyridine, pop = bis(2-(diphenylphosphino)phenyl)ether), [Cu(phen)(pop)][PF6] (phen = 1,10-phenanthroline), [Cu(bpy)(pdpb)][PF6] (pdpb = 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)benzene) and [Cu(phen)(pdpb)][PF6] are presented. The synthesis, X-ray structures, solution and solid-state photophysical studies, and the performance in light-emitting electrochemical cells (LECs) of these complexes are described. Their photophysical properties are interpreted with the help of density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The photophysical studies in solution and in the solid-state indicate that these copper(I) complexes show good lu…

Laser densification of organic coating: Effects of laser wavelength, operating parameters and substrate properties

2012

International audience; Mechanical bonding and interface behaviour play a key role for any materials deposited on different substrates. Usually, a post-spray heat treatment is required to improve the coating morphology and to enhance mechanical properties of thermal-sprayed polymeric coating. The effects of YAG, CO2 and diode laser radiations on as-sprayed PEEK coating deposited on stainless steel and aluminum substrates were investigated. The results revealed a good coating densification and interface behavior. A correlation between coating and substrate absorption coefficients, their thermophysical properties and laser operating parameters was shown. Besides, the finite element modeling b…

Modelling polycarbonate synthesis rates on the example of bulk heteropolyaddition of diphenyl carbonate and bisphenol A diglycidyl ether

2016

This paper investigates the effects of increased reaction mixture viscosity on the kinetics of linear polymer creation in a bulk polyaddition process of diphenyl carbonate and bisphenol A diglycidyl ether. The paper presents a method for solving a system of bulk polyaddition of diphenyl carbonate and bisphenol A diglycidyl ether process balance equations, allowing the determinatiof the process kinetic parameters. Determination of polymerisation reaction kinetic parameters was also made possible by the use of the so-called partial reaction rate constant. Such an approach enabled a significant simplification of the mathematical expressions describing the heteropolyaddition process and provide…

Hydrophilic membranes based on poly(vinyl methyl ether-crosslinked-polystyrene) semi-interpenetrating networks

1991

Microporous membranes were prepared from poly(vinyl methyl ether - crosslinked-polystyrene) (PVME-cross-PS) semi-IPN's by extraction of poly(vinyl methyl ether) (PVME) with water. Membrane morphology and properties are fixed during the process of swelling, phase separation, PVME extraction and vitrification which occurs upon immersing the samples in water. The membranes are characterized by swelling (water uptake), the relative amounts of free and bound water, and their permselectivity towards KCI solution.

Thioether-Bearing Hyperbranched Polyether Polyols with Methionine-Like Side-Chains: A Versatile Platform for Orthogonal Functionalization

2016

The synthesis of thioether-bearing hyperbranched polyether polyols based on an AB/AB2 type copolymerization (cyclic latent monomers) is introduced. The polymers are prepared by anionic ring-opening multibranching copolymerization of glycidol and 2-(methylthio)ethyl glycidyl ether (MTEGE), which is conveniently accessible in a single etherification step. Slow monomer addition provides control over molecular weights. Moderate dispersities (Đ = 1.48–1.85) are obtained, given the hyperbranched structure. In situ 1H NMR copolymerization kinetics reveal reactivity ratios of rG = 3.7 and rMTEGE = 0.27. Using slow monomer addition, copolymer composition can be systematically varied, allowing for th…

Cleavable Polyethylene Glycol: 3,4-Epoxy-1-butene as a Comonomer to Establish Degradability at Physiologically Relevant pH.

2016

Polyethylene glycol (PEG) has been used for decades to improve the pharmacokinetic properties of protein drugs, and several PEG-protein conjugates are approved by the FDA. However, the nondegradability of PEG restricts its use to a limiting molecular weight to permit renal excretion. In this work, we introduce a simple strategy to overcome the nondegradability of PEG by incorporating multiple pH-sensitive vinyl ether moieties into the polyether backbone. Copolymerization of 3,4-epoxy-1-butene (EPB) with ethylene oxide via anionic ring-opening polymerization (AROP) provides access to allyl moieties that can be isomerized to pH-cleavable propenyl units (isoEPB). Well-defined P(EPB-co-EG) copo…

Assessing persistent organic pollutants (POPS) in the sicily island atmosphere, mediterranean, using PUF disk passive air samplers

2016

In this study, PUF disk passive air samplers were deployed at eight sites, during two sampling periods, on the Island of Sicily in the Mediterranean basin. Samples were screened for a number of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) including polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) (n = 28 congeners), organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) (n = 16 compounds), and polybrominated biphenyl ethers (PBDEs n = 28) using GC-MS. PCB concentrations in air ranged ~10-300 pg m-3. The PCB pattern was dominated by lower to middle molecular weight PCBs (Cl3-5) and PCB-28 and PCB-52 were the most abundant congeners. α- and γ-Hexachlorocyclohexanes (HCHs) concentrations in air were relatively high ~420 ± 320 (50-1000) an…
