Old-age protection for women in the Spanish pension system

The example of Spain confirms the common view that contributory pension systems reproduce inequalities between the sexes that result from the nature of labour market structures and the sharing of family responsibilities. In general, women who stay at home are not entitled to their own pensions and are dependent on benefits of lower value such as survivors' pensions (derived entitlements) or non-contributory pensions. In turn, women who work outside the home accrue lower entitlements than men and, consequently, lower old-age or disability pensions (personal entitlements). On rules and rule-following: obeying rules blindly

Abstract The theoretical importance and explanatory value of ‘rules’ have frequently been questioned. This article discusses two different lines of criticism presented by the representatives of ethnomethodology and connectionism. It is argued that in both approaches a ‘rule’ is understood in a limited sense. Consequently their criticism does not give grounds to refute the notion of rules. The assumption that the later Wittgenstein proposes to reject ‘rules’ altogether can also be seen as mistaken. Gifting, service, and performance: three eras in minority-language media policy and practice

Adapting Tom Ricento’s (2006) three-era framework in language policy to the case of the Sami in Finland and Irish in the Republic of Ireland, we identify three key eras in the development of minority-language media: the gifting era, the service era, and the performance era. Each era has its own particular logic and normativities in relation to the value and functions allocated to minoritylanguage media, the key actors involved in these media, and concepts of languages and speakers. The value of volunteering in special events: A longitudinal study

Abstract Volunteering has important insights for tourism, especially in the context of special events. In this paper, volunteering is studied in a religious event from a consumer value-based approach. A longitudinal study is conducted on 711 volunteers, three months before and one month after the event. The value-based approach is reliable and valid over time. The results of the value dimensions (spirituality as altruism, social value, play, efficiency, and effort spent) suggest volunteering is a highly emotional experience, although functional aspects showed higher expectations than perceptions.
