The Importance of Engaging Local People in Landscape Management – Experiences from an EU Project

“Bull by the Horns” -project initiated landscape management and promoted biodiversity associated with diminishing High Nature Value farmland habitats in Finland. A specific focus was on grazed semi-natural grasslands and wood-pastures which are collectively referred to as traditional rural biotopes (TRBs). Collaboration among project workers, non-farming landowners, and cattle owners reintroduced grazing to abandoned pastures, and management was financed through agri-environmental payments. Final disposal of spent nuclear fuel (SNF) from nuclear power plants (NPPs) is an ethical issue with implications within and across generations. We address this issue from the perspective of nuclear communities that host nuclear waste disposal sites. These are primarily the communities that face injustice due to the potential radiological risks. A resident survey (n = 454) was conducted in two Finnish nuclear communities, i.e. Eurajoki and Pyhajoki, that are being considered as alternative sites for a second repository for SNF. Resumen La Ley 41/2002, de 14 de noviembre, basica reguladora de la autonomia del paciente da valor legal vinculante a las voluntades anticipadas (VA) en Espana. Sin embargo, la situacion en cada pais de la Union Europea es distinta y desconocida para la mayoria del personal sanitario. Para conocer esas diferencias, se realizo una recogida y estudio de las distintas legislaciones en materia de derechos del paciente, y se establecio una comparativa actualizada de las caracteristicas que cada pais otorga a las VA.
