Descent among the Wayú. Concepts and social meanings. Taking the contemporary rethinking of the descent notion in Lowland South American ethnography as a starting point, the article provides an analysis of matrilineal descent among the Wayú. Using new ethnographical data, special attention is paid to indigenous concepts and to the way matrilineal descent articulates with other principles of social classification. This article explores the methodological and ethical issues that arise from ethnographic research in sexual practices in the study of non-normative sexualities. It explores the researcher as a subject in the research as well as doing the research. This study examines under-18 marriage in urban Tanzania from an ethnographic perspective. Due to poverty and high unemployment, some girls aspire to early marriage. Two pathways to early marriage are identified: first, poverty and gendered economic disparities motivate girls to begin transactional sexual activity at an early age, leading parents to favour early marriage as a risk-reduction measure. Second, educational opportunities are often closed off to girls before marriage, as a result of which early marriage becomes the only culturally approved pathway that allows girls to present themselves to others as a self-sufficient agent. Tutkielmassa tarkastellaan turismin liittyvää vapaamuotoista kanssakäymistä paikallisten malawilaisten sekä ulkomaalaisten asukkaiden ja matkailijoiden välillä. This article discusses raciolinguistic ideologies in the Finnish educational context. Ethnographic interviews and observational data gathered during 2015–2020 from two young males who came to Finland from the Middle-East in autumn 2015 as unaccompanied minors were analysed applying the small stories approach. This article uses an ethnographic approach to study citizens’ participation in the context of participatory practices organized in the framework of cultural policy of the European Union. It focuses on one EU policy action, European Heritage Label (EHL) and one cultural heritage site that has received this label. The research data was collected through participant observation and interviews with young people who participated in the activities organized on and by the site. Tässä artikkelissa pohdin etnografiaa ja etnologista kenttätyötä suhteessa toiseen, täysin erilaiseen kokemukseeni kentällä olemisesta. Artikkelin pohjana on henkilökohtainen kokemukseni kolmelta hoitotyön jaksolta sairaalaympäristöissä, joissa työskentelin tutkimusrahoituskausien välissä. Olen opiskellut sairaanhoitoa siitä koskaan kuitenkaan valmistumatta. Aloitin sairaanhoidon opinnot ja lähihoitajan työjaksoni akateemisen tutkimuksen ohessa, kun rahoituskaudet olivat tauolla. Tuon jakson aikana suoritin sairaanhoidon opintoja noin kahden vuoden verran ja tein ohessa lähihoitajan töitä muutamilla sairaalaosastoilla.
