FORMAL CONCEPTION OF ROUGH SETS

In the paper we present a formal description of rough sets within the framework of the generalized set theory, which is interpreted in the set approximation theory. The rough sets are interpreted as approximations, which are defined by means of the Pawlak's rough sets.

Continuity of solutions of linear, degenerate elliptic equations

We consider the simplest form of a second order, linear, degenerate, divergence structure equation in the plane. Under an integrability condition on the degenerate function, we prove that the solutions are continuous.

After a compact overview of the standard mathematical presentations of the formalism of quantum mechanics using the language of C*- algebras and/or the language of Hilbert spaces we turn attention to the possible use of the language of Krein spaces.I n the context of the so-called three-Hilbert-space scenario involving the so-called PT-symmetric or quasi- Hermitian quantum models a few recent results are reviewed from this point of view, with particular focus on the quantum dynamics in the Schrodinger and Heisenberg representations.

A Non-antisymmetric Tensor Contraction Engine for the Automated Implementation of Spin-Adapted Coupled Cluster Approaches

We present a symbolic manipulation algorithm for the efficient automated implementation of rigorously spin-free coupled cluster (CC) theories based on a unitary group parametrization. Due to the lack of antisymmetry of the unitary group generators under index permutations, all quantities involved in the equations are expressed in terms of non-antisymmetric tensors. Given two tensors, all possible contractions are first generated by applying Wick's theorem. Motivic Pattern Extraction in Symbolic Domain

This chapter offers an overview of computational research in motivic pattern extraction. The central questions underlying the topic, concerning the formalization of the motivic structures, the matching strategies and the filtering of the results, have been addressed in various ways. A detailed analysis of these problems leads to the proposal of a new methodology, which will be developed throughout the study. One main conclusion of this review is that the problems cannot be tackled using purely mathematic or geometric heuristics or classical engineering tools, but require also a detailed understanding of the multiple constraints derived by the underlying cognitive context.

Analytic vectors, anomalies and star representations

It is hinted that anomalies are not really anomalous since (at least in characteristic examples) they can be related to a lack of common analytic vectors for the Hamiltonian and the observables. We reanalyze the notions of analytic vectors and of local representations of Lie algebras in this light, and show how the notion of preferred observables introduced in the deformation (star product) approach to quantization may help give an anomaly-free formulation to physical problems. Finally, some remarks are made concerning the applicability of these considerations to field theory, especially in two dimensions.

Preferential localization of Lactococcus lactis cells entrapped in a caseinate/alginate phase separated system.

International audience; This study aimed to entrap bioprotective lactic acid bacteria in a sodium caseinate/sodium alginate aqueous two-phase system. Phase diagram at pH = 7 showed that sodium alginate and sodium caseinate were not miscible when their concentrations exceeded 1% (w/w) and 6% (w/w), respectively. The stability of the caseinate/alginate two-phase system was also checked at pH values of 6.0 and 5.5. Lactococcus lactis subsp. lactis LAB3 cells were added in a 4% (w/w) caseinate/1.5% (w/w) alginate two-phase system at pH = 7. Synthesis, characterization, and thermal behavior of steroidal dendrons

A series of novel dendritic steroidal polyesters of first and second generation has been synthesized in convergent fashion by the use of 2,2-bis(hydroxymethyl)propionic acid as a repeating unit. The first- and second-generation hydroxy-functionalized dendrons with a variety of surface modifications were produced through the use of four bile acids: lithocholic acid (LCA), ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA), deoxycholic acid (DCA), and cholic acid (CA). Modeling of copper fixed-bed biosorption from wastewater by Posidonia oceanica

Biosorption of copper from aqueous solutions by Posidonia oceanica was investigated in batch and fixed-bed experiments. Batch experiments were conducted to evaluate the removal equilibrium at pH 5.0 and 6.0; experimental data were fitted to Langmuir model with maximum uptake capacities of 56.92 and 85.78 mg g(-1), respectively. Five column experiments were carried out at different feed concentrations. Breakthrough times and continuous sorption isotherm were obtained from breakthrough curves. Differences among batch and continuous isotherms were observed; the maximum uptake capacity in dynamic conditions was found in 56.70 mg g(-1) for final pH between 5.0 and 5.5.
