La “desconexión digital” a lomos de la seguridad y salud en el trabajo

2021

The preponderance given to teleworking or remote work due to the health crisis is pushing to blur the line that separates effective work time from leisure and rest time. In the end, it practically causes the employee to never disconnect from work. And this is so because Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) push workers to have a constant time and location availability, even outside their working hours. In this sense, communications from bosses, co-workers or even clients through different means like now are not surprising: emails that need an urgent answer, phone calls at untimely hours or, especially in the sense of this article, through the smartphone, either by SMS messages -…

Oxygen uptake, heart rate and blood lactate levels in female horseback riders during the obstacle test track

2020

The purpose of this study was to examine endurance performance by recording oxygen uptake, heart rate and blood lactate during the obstacle test track, equivalent to competitive performance in female horseback riders. In total 42 female riders participated in the study (show jumping, SJ n = 16, eventing, E n = 26). Age, height and weight of the total group were 29.0(9.2) yrs, 1.68(0.06) m, and 68.1(10.3) kg, respectively. Participants rode a minimum of 4 times per/week, and the riding level was from national to international. VO2peak/VO2mean and HRpeak/HRmean of the total group during the obstacle test track (OTT) were 34.4(5.0)/26.4(4.0) ml/kg/min and 184.4(9.6)/178.1(10.2) bpm. BLa concen…

Estimating Terrestrial Neutron-Induced SEB Cross-Sections and FIT Rates for High-Voltage SiC Power MOSFETs

2019

Cross sections and failure in time rates for neutron-induced single-event burnout (SEB) are estimated for SiC power MOSFETs using a method based on combining results from heavy ion SEB experimental data, 3-D TCAD prediction of sensitive volumes, and Monte Carlo radiation transport simulations of secondary particle production. The results agree well with experimental data and are useful in understanding the mechanisms for neutron-induced SEB data. peerReviewed

Ion-Induced Energy Pulse Mechanism for Single-Event Burnout in High-Voltage SiC Power MOSFETs and Junction Barrier Schottky Diodes

2020

Heavy ion data suggest that a common mechanism is responsible for single-event burnout in 1200 V power MOSFETs and junction barrier Schottky diodes. Similarly, heavy ion data suggest a common mechanism is also responsible for leakage current degradation in both devices. This mechanism, based on ion-induced, highlylocalized energy pulses, is demonstrated in simulations and shown to be capable of causing degradation and singleevent burnout for both the MOSFETs and JBS diodes. peerReviewed

In this article we present the first version of the online database ASODAT, a federation of four databases on different aspec…

Event signal characterization for disturbance interpretation in power grid

2018

This paper presents the signal processing approach to detect and characterize the physical events that occur in power system using PMUs signals. A small window is applied so that the extracted spectral features belong to a stationary signal. This is based on applying empirical mode decomposition, followed by square root of spectral kurtosis (SRSK) for computation of statistical indices to indicate the event occurrence. Subsequently, features from these events are extracted using mel frequency cepstral coefficients on SRSK. © 2018 IEEE. Personal use of this material is permitted. P300-based brain computer interface experimental setup

2009

A Brain-Computer interface (BCI) is a communication system that enables the generation of a control signal from brain signals such as sensorymotor rhythms and evoked potentials; therefore, it constitutes a novel communication option for people with severe motor disabilities (such as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis patients). This paper presents the development of a P300-based BCI. This prototype uses a homemade six-channel electroencephalograph for the acquisition of the signals, and a visual stimulation matrix; since this matrix contains letters of the alphabet as well as images associated to them, it permits word-writing and the elaboration of messages with the images. To process the signal…

Tasty Events : On Culinary Events in the Silesian Voivodeship

2015

The topic of reflection undertaken herein are public events having an evident culinary character. In the first part of her essay, the author proposes a typology of culinary events, with special focus on those events which appear in the public space the most often. Their number and considerable complexity are associated with the target participant group, the current patterns of consumption, gastronomic styles, and finally with functions which have been ascribed to those events. In the second part, she discusses selected culinary events organised in the Silesian voivodeship which have characteristic dishes (e.g. wodzionka, moczka, kołocz) associated with the local cuisine as their Leitmotif. …
