Incidence of burnout in Spanish nursing professionals: a longitudinal study.
2010
Background: Burnout is a psychological response to chronic work-related stress of an interpersonal and emotional nature that appears in professionals in service organizations who work in direct contact with the clients or end-users of the organization. Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the incidence of burnout in a sample of staff nurses. Design: The study was longitudinal, and not randomized. The gap between time 1 (T1) and time 2 (T2) was 1 year. Settings: The data were gathered using an anonymous and self-applied questionnaire in different units of 13 Spanish hospitals. Participants: The sample consisted of 316 staff nurses, 53 males (16.8%) and 262 females (83.2%). The…
Factorial validity of the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI-HSS) among Spanish professionals
2005
OBJECTIVE: To assess the factorial validity and internal consistency of the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI-HSS). METHODS: In a sample consisting of 705 Spanish professionals from diverse occupational sectors (health, education, police and so one), seven plausible factorial models hypothesized were compared using LISREL 8. RESULTS: The four-factor oblique solution and the three-factor oblique solution showed the best and similar fit. Deletion of Item 12 and Item 16, taking into consideration the suggestions in the manual, improved the goodness of fit for both models. The four-factor oblique model suggests that, in addition to Emotional Exhaustion (EE) and Depersonalization (DP), Personal Acc…
Consolidation of working hours and work-life balance in anaesthesiologists - A cross-sectional national survey.
2018
Currently, healthcare management fosters a maximization of performance despite a relative shortage of specialists. We evaluated anaesthesiologists' workload, physical health, emotional well-being, job satisfaction and working conditions under increased pressure from consolidated working hours. A nationwide cross-sectional survey was performed in Austrian anaesthesiologists (overall response rate 41.0%). Three hundred and ninety four anaesthesiologists (280 specialists, 114 anaesthesiology trainees) participated. Anaesthesiologists reported frequently working under time pressure (95%CI: 65.6-74.6), at high working speed (95%CI: 57.6-67.1), with delayed or cancelled breaks (95%CI: 54.5-64.1),…
Burnout in Cardiac Anesthesiologists: Results From a National Survey in Italy
2018
Objective There is increasing burnout incidence among medical disciplines, and physicians working in emergency settings seem at higher risk. Cardiac anesthesiology is a stressful anesthesiology subspecialty dealing with high-risk patients. The authors hypothesized a high risk of burnout in cardiac anesthesiologists. Design National survey conducted on burnout. Setting Italian cardiac centers. Participants Cardiac anesthesiologists. Interventions The authors administered via email an anonymous questionnaire divided into 3 parts. The first 2 parts evaluated workload and private life. The third part consisted of the Maslach Burnout Inventory test with its 3 constituents: high emotional exhaust…
Burnout and depression among Spanish periodontology practitioners.
2009
Objectives: The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of burnout syndrome and depression symptoms among periodontology practitioners, as well as the relationship with socio-demographic variables and work stress. Study Design: A total of 284 subjects, members of the Spanish Society of Periodontology (SEPA), were selected for this study. The Spanish version of the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) and the Tetradimensional Estructural Questionnaire for Depression (TEC-DE) were sent by post to all participants. Descriptive statistics in addition to mean comparison and chi-square test were used for data analysis. Results: A response rate of 59.85% was obtained. From the total sam…
Soot particle properties in the microwave range
1993
This paper outlines the study of Diesel soot particle properties in the frequency band 2.0-40.0 GHz. Using a transmission/reflection as well as a cavity perturbation method, the complex dielectric constant ?* = ?1 - j?2 was measured for multiple of samples (soot particles produced in a Diesel engine and deposited on paper filter). From the analysis of the experimental data the following conclusions appear: The complex dielectric constant - i.e. the HF electrical conductivity and the microwave power absorption efficiency - are dependent on the frequency and the soot particle thickness. Increasing the soot particle thickness causes the reflection to be stronger and results in less influence o…
Mentoring styles and novice teachers’ well-being: The role of basic need satisfaction
2021
Abstract School-based mentoring is a key component of support during the challenging teacher induction phase, but different counseling approaches vary in their effectiveness in fostering novices’ well-being. This study investigates effects of two distinct mentoring approaches on emotional exhaustion by considering their potential to address mentees’ basic needs. Data stem from 579 beginning teachers enrolled in the German practical training period. Structural equation modeling indicates that constructivist-oriented mentoring lowers level of exhaustion by supporting mentees’ autonomy need satisfaction. Results do not indicate an effect of transmission-oriented mentoring on mentees’ well-bein…

TEACHERS' SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL HEALTH INDICATORS IN THE DISTANCE LEARNING SITUATION DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC
2021
There were 3 countries which participated in Erasmus+ project „Supporting teachers to face the challenge of distance teaching” (2020-1-LV01-KA226-SCH-094599) during last year. The aim of the project was to develop a well-functioning digital support system for teachers, promoting socio-emotional health and resilience. The main aim of this research was to outline a research problem on teacher well-being factors in three countries during the Covid-19 pandemic, when teachers worked remotely, and to further explore the problem in a focus group in Latvia. The following is a description of the study that was carried out in Latvia on the problems of teachers' social and emotional health factors dur…
Evolution of nitrogen concentration and ammonia production in N 2 -seeded H-mode discharges at ASDEX Upgrade
2019
Ammonia formation was studied in a series of dedicated nitrogen seeded H-mode discharges at ASDEX Upgrade. The evolution of ammonia formation was investigated with a reference phase before the seeding, and a long, stable flat-top nitrogen-seeded phase. It was monitored with divertor spectroscopy and analysis of the exhaust gas. The amount of the detected ammonia increased continuously over the course of five discharges with the same nitrogen seeding rate. The same trend was observed in the nitrogen density in the core plasma, as measured by charge exchange recombination spectroscopy and other signals, linked to the effects of nitrogen seeding. The results show that the rate of ammonia forma…
