Innovative technologies for the recovery of phytochemicals from Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni leaves: A review.

2018

Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni has gained increased industrial and scientific interests in the last 20 years, representing a suitable nutritional alternative to sucrose and artificial sweeteners. Moreover, this plant contains polyphenols, chlorophylls, and carotenoids that may be extracted for production of nutraceuticals and functional foods. Because of nutritional and technological advantages over sucrose, innovative approaches for the extraction of highly valued compounds from Stevia leaves have been developed and optimized. In contrast to conventional alternatives, innovative extraction methods allow higher yields in a shorter time, less usage of organic solvents, and reduced energy consumpt…

TrpM, a Small Protein Modulating Tryptophan Biosynthesis and Morpho-Physiological Differentiation in Streptomyces coelicolor A3(2).

2016

In the model actinomycete Streptomyces coelicolor A3(2), small open reading frames encoding proteins with unknown functions were identified in several amino acid biosynthetic gene operons, such as SCO2038 (trpX) in the tryptophan trpCXBA locus. In this study, the role of the corresponding protein in tryptophan biosynthesis was investigated by combining phenotypic and molecular analyses. The 2038KO mutant strain was characterized by delayed growth, smaller aerial hyphae and reduced production of spores and actinorhodin antibiotic, with respect to the WT strain. The capability of this mutant to grow on minimal medium was rescued by tryptophan and tryptophan precursor (serine and/or indole) su…

Introduction to MIP synthesis, characteristics and analytical application

2019

One of the trends in analytical chemistry is associated with designing and developing new types of sample preparation techniques, which might significantly increase the efficiency and selectivity of the analytes isolation or/and preconcentration process. One of the most widely employed solutions is selective sorption materials, defined as molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs), as well as the sorbents with the molecular fingerprint. Due to their simple preparation protocol, mechanical, thermal and chemical stability and selectivity, MIPs have found application as a stationary phase in separation techniques such as liquid chromatography or capillary electrophoresis, in electrochemical sensors…

Single hollow fiber SLM extraction of polyamines followed by tosyl chloride derivatization and HPLC determination

2007

Determination of polyamines in biological fluids possesses medical diagnostic relevance. Despite the vast panel of analytical methods developed for polyamines they are not applied in routine clinical usage, mainly due to the time and labor consuming sample preparation step and complicated derivatization procedures. Thus, new simpler methods are needed. This paper describes a single hollow fiber SLM extraction method of polyamines followed by simple pre-column derivatization with tosyl chloride and HPLC-UV analysis. The influence of different parameters such as the extraction time, organic phase composition, acceptor pH, donor pH, acceptor volume, donor volume and stirring speed on the trans…

Influence of temperature on mass transfer in an incomplete trapping single hollow fibre supported liquid membrane extraction of triazole fungicides.

2008

The influence of temperature in a single hollow fibre supported liquid membrane extraction of triazole fungicides with a stagnant acceptor phase was investigated. The mass transfer parameters such as diffusion coefficient, flux and apparent viscosity were determined at temperature ranging from 278 K to 313 K. Increase in temperature led to an increase in diffusion coefficient and flux. The apparent viscosity also decreased with an increase in temperature. The degree of trapping in the acceptor phase influenced the mass transfer at higher temperature. At lower temperature, the transport of analytes from the donor solution through the donor-membrane interface and through the membrane mainly a…

ANALYTICAL PROCEDURES FOR THE DETERMINATION OF TRACE AMOUNTS OF XENOBIOTICS IN ENVIRONMENTAL WATER SAMPLES

2016

Rozwój nauki i techniki umożliwił kontrolowanie tych substancji w środowisku naturalnym. Oznaczanie śladowych ilości ksenobiotyków w próbkach wód środowiskowych jest złożonym procesem, wymagającym zastosowania odpowiedniej metody ekstrakcyjnej i analitycznej. Złożoność matrycy oraz obecność substancji współobecnych stanowi d…

Environmental Aspect Concerning Phthalates Contamination: Analytical Approaches and Assessment of Biomonitoring in the Aquatic Environment

2023

This review is a survey of recent progress in studies concerning the impact of phthalic acid esters in aquatic organisms. After introducing the classification, properties, sources, fate, and toxic effects related to phthalates, an overview of the techniques of extraction and analysis of these substances is provided. As a result, the general concepts of environmental bioindicators, biomonitoring systems, and other concepts related to phthalate contamination in the aquatic environment are presented. Recent bioaccumulation data of different phthalates are summarised in a table and organised according to the type of organism, tissue, and geographical area of sampling. Bioindicator organisms tha…
