Circulating markers of retinal and optic nerve lipids
2013
Purpose Blood lipids are frequently used as a surrogate of lipid composition of peripheral tissues. Even if it is well accepted, such a relationship has never been clearly demonstrated for the eye. The aim of this study was to determine in human samples whether a lipidomic approach based on red blood cells could reveal associations between circulating and ocular lipid profiles. Methods Red blood cells, retinas and optic nerves were collected from 9 human donors. The lipidomic analyses on these tissues were done by both, gas chromatography and liquid chromatography coupled to an electrospray ionization source-mass spectrometer (LC-ESI-MS/MS). Results Gas chromatographic approach did not show…
Hemispheric asymmetry in the visual contribution to postural control in healthy adults.
1997
International audience; This study was carried out in order to test the hypothesis of a right hemisphere dominance in the visual control of body balance. Eight healthy adults were subjected to a self-regulated lateral balance task, performed while sitting on a rocking platform. Four visual conditions were tested: open eyes with normal vision, closed eyes in the dark, left visual field-right hemisphere and right visual field-left hemisphere. Head and support displacements in the roll plane were recorded by means of an optoelectronic system. Two main results emerged from this study: (1) head stabilization in space was much more efficient in the left visual field-right hemisphere condition tha…

Design and Calibration of an Omni-RGB plus D Camera
2016
International audience; In this paper, we present the design of a new camera combining both predator-like and prey-like vision features. This setup provides both a spherical RGB-view and a directional depth-view of the environment. The model and calibration of the full set-up are described. A few examples will be given to demonstrate the interest and the versatility of such camera for robotics and video surveillance at the oral presentation.
Offsetting Self-Phase Modulation in Optical Fibre by Sinusoidally Time-Varying Phase
2018
We report on our recent experimental and theoretical results on the use of a sinusoidally time-varying phase to suppress undesirable self-phase modulation of optical pulses propagating in fibre-optic systems.
Mitigation of self-phase modulation by sinusoidally time varying phase
2018
The propagation of intense ultra-short optical pulses in a Kerr medium such as an optical fibre remains a critical issue for many optical systems. This is because the self-phase modulation (SPM) of the propagating pulse usually causes a severe broadening of the pulse spectrum that is typically accompanied by an oscillatory structure. Several strategies have been proposed and successfully deployed to counteract the deleterious effects of SPM in fiber-optic systems, including spatial or temporal scaling to reduce the impact of nonlinearity. Other approaches rely on the exploitation of the peculiar properties of parabolic shaped pulses and self-similar evolution. However, none of these last te…
Sampling and amplification technique based on XPM-induced focusing in normally dispersive optical fibers
2016
International audience; We theoretically and experimentally investigate an all-optical amplification and sampling technique based on a XPM process between an arbitrary signal and an intense orthogonally polarized high repetition rate sinusoidal pump wave within a normally dispersive optical fiber.

Bioavailability of dietary omega-3 DHA and lutein for the retina: results from a preclinical study in mini-pigs with encapsulated nutrients
2015
Purpose: Epidemiological studies support the hypothesis that dietary omega-3 long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids and carotenoids prevent from Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD). AREDS2 failed to find benefits of omega-3 supplementation on the progression to advanced AMD. However, lower risk progression was reported in AMD patients of the NAT2 study whom omega-3 incorporation in red blood cells and plasma was the highest. Our purpose was to test whether feeding mini-pigs with encapsulated docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and lutein would promote the bioavailability of the nutrients in plasma and tissues including the retina. Methods: Microparticles containing lutein and DHA were formed by s…
