Słabości eksplanacyjne teorii inteligentnego projektu

Artykuł powstrzymuje się od polemiki merytorycznej z teorią inteligentnego projektu, dalej TIP, a jedynie wskazuje na jej niedostatki metodologiczne. Dowodzi, że wbrew twierdzeniom jej zwolenników TIP nie jest falsyfikowalna. W odróżnieniu od teorii ewolucji nie może pełnić nawet roli metafizycznego programu badawczego w sensie Poppera. Co jednak ważniejsze, TIP nie pełni żadnych funkcji eksplanacyjnych. W grę wchodzą jedynie wyjaśnienia intencjonalne, TIP zaś nie jest w stanie zidentyfikować motywów domniemanego projektanta. Il contributo intende evidenziare le prospettive di un approccio interdisciplinare integrato allo studio della ceramica policroma “di Centuripe”. Dagli inizi del XX secolo, tale classe ha riscosso ampio apprezzamento per le sue delicate pitture e la ricchezza di ornamenti a rilievo applicati (dipinti e dorati) che abbelliscono i vasi, rendendoli pressoché inutilizzabili nella pratica per scopi funzionali, ma altamente efficaci come doni funerari in antico, e oggi come pezzi di grande impatto per commercianti di antichità e collezionisti moderni. The commentary to the Hippocratic treatise De humoribus, which was accepted as an authentic Galenic work till recent times, uses to be nowadays assigned to a mid-XVIth. century author of false ancient manuscripts, the Greek Andreas Darmarios. In spite of this, the text presents several kinds of problems that suggest a careful revisiting of the question. This article presents some of such problems and looks for a different explanation by means of the interaction of the languages involved in the transmission of the text.

Over the course of many years, as a teacher, scholar, and friend, Ruth Zimmerling has impressed on me the importance of precisely defining one’s concepts. After all, if there is no agreement on the intension and extension of a concept, it is impossible “to assess the truth or falsity or, more generally, the correctness or incorrectness, of propositions, hypotheses or theories” (Zimmerling 2005: 15). The statement is almost self-evident: Without precisely defined concepts, the whole endeavour of science becomes pointless, and scholarly discourses are bound to turn into dialogues of the deaf.
