Development and Validation of the Adolescent and Children in Risk of Abuse and Maltreatment Protective Factors Scale (ACRAM-PFS)

2022

AbstractBackgroundChild maltreatment is a significant global problem concerning over 25% of children around the world. Traditionally, the assessment of children’s welfare was characterized by the creation of instruments and models from the deficit-based theoretical framework.PurposeThis study aims to develop an instrument to measure protective factors (the Adolescent and Children Risk of Abuse and Maltreatment Protective Factors Scale, ACRAM-PFS) and gather evidence on its psychometric properties. ACRAM-PFS is an 18-items scale for the assessment of protective factors of child maltreatment developed from the socioecological framework.MethodStructural validity, reliability and convergent-rel…

Ajan henki lain kirjaimessa : suomalaisten lastensuojelulakien ja -asetusten ideologiat

2019

The Spirit of Time in the Letter of the Law. The Ideologies of Finnish Child Welfare Legislation analyses what kinds of ideologies are construed in child welfare legislation and how. It is based on a critical discourse analysis in the fields the work is situated in: language studies and social sciences. The results are applicable in the drafting and interpretation of language for professional use. In the First Child Welfare Act and Decree (1936), ideology is construed as an educational ideology in which the authorities are guided in, and largely required to take particular institutional and educational measures for child welfare when specified conditions are met. Children, young people, par…

The Chorioallantoic Membrane Assay in Nanotoxicological Research—An Alternative for In Vivo Experimentation

2020

Nanomaterials unveil many applicational possibilities for technical and medical purposes, which range from imaging techniques to the use as drug carriers. Prior to any human application, analysis of undesired effects and characterization of their toxicological profile is mandatory. To address this topic, animal models, and rodent models in particular, are most frequently used. However, as the reproducibility and transferability to the human organism of animal experimental data is increasingly questioned and the awareness of animal welfare in society increases at the same time, methodological alternatives are urgently required. The chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) assay is an increasingly popu…

DYSPHORIC-LIKE BEHAVIOUR DURING ETHANOL WITHDRAWAL IN FEMALE RATS. EFFECT OF CONTINUOUS VS INTERMITTENT ACCESS PARADIGM.

2014

Women show higher vulnerability for neuroadaptation to alcohol, which may contribute to negative emotional state during withdrawal (Sharrett-Field et al., 2013; Koob and Le Moal, 1997). This study aimed at exploring the effects of different patterns of voluntary ethanol consumption on female rat"s affective behaviour during withdrawal. Female rats underwent 12-week-, 2-bottle choice- continuous or intermittent (3 days/week ) access to 20% ethanol and were respectively named CARs and IARs. They were tested for alcohol preference; dysphoric-like state during withdrawal (24-48h); depressive- and anhedonic-like behaviours explored by forced swim- and saccharin preference tests; anxiety-like beh…

Vaccinium sugu ogu spiedatlieku ekstraktu efekti uz alfa - amilāzes aktivitāti in vitro

2018
