Hf27Si6P10, a novel metal-rich compound with P2 groups
2000
The new ternary metal rich compound Hf27Si6P10 has been synthesized by reduction of HfP with Hf and Si; Hf27Si6P10 crystallizes in a new structure type, a characteristic and unexpected feature of which is the presence of P2 groups; the structural results are interpreted with the aid of high-level band structure calculations.
Mimicking shear zones: An example from Wadi Filk, Jordan
2017
Abstract Ductile shear zones can develop in at least two ways: (1) a nucleus can grow laterally by free propagation into undeformed host rock, like most faults or joints; (2) the zone may nucleate and grow on or in a planar discontinuity and mimick its orientation. Most small-scale ductile shear zones are mimicking zones, but large-scale ductile shear zones could be free-propagating. The Wadi Filk mylonite zone in Jordan is a two km long, ten meter wide mylonite zone flanked by ultramylonite zones, developed in undeformed Neoproterozoic porphyritic monzogranite. Since mineral and major element composition of mylonite and monzogranite are identical, the structure seems to have formed by free…
HCHs and DDTs in sediment-dwelling animals from the Yangtze Estuary, China
2005
HCHs and DDTs in sediment-dwelling animals including mollusks and crabs from the Yangtze Estuary were deter- mined by GC-ECD. Levels of t-HCH were in the range of 1.2-5.5 ng g 1 and averaged 3.5 ng g 1 in mollusks, while t-DDT concentrations ranged from 26.0 to 68.8 ng g 1 , with a mean of 34.5 ng g 1 . In crabs t-HCH concentrations var- ied from 2.0 to 25.7 ng g 1 and averaged 13.8 ng g 1 , whereas the concentrations of t-DDT were in the range of 1.5- 24.8 ng g 1 with a mean value of 5.9 ng g 1 . The HCHs and DDTs levels depend on geographical position and sources, showing the high levels at fresh water area in the estuary, such as XP, CM and LHK sites, and lower at brackis…
Interspecific hybridization improves the performance of Lotus spp. under saline stress
2019
Abstract Salinity is one of the most frequent limiting conditions in pasture production for grazing livestock. Legumes, such as Lotus spp. with high forage quality and capable of adapting to different environments, improves pasture performance in restrictive areas. In order to determine potential cultivars with better forage traits, the current study assess the response to salt stress of L. tenuis, L. corniculatus and a novel L. tenuis x L. corniculatus accession. For this purpose, chlorophyll fluorescence, biomass production, ion accumulation and anthocyanins and proanthocyanidins levels have been evaluated in control and salt-treated plants PSII activity was affected by salt in L. tenuis,…
Stationary phase modulation in liquid chromatography through the serial coupling of columns: A review
2016
Liquid chromatography with single columns often does not succeed in the analysis of complex samples, in terms of resolution and analysis time. A relatively simple solution to enhance chromatographic resolution is the modulation of the stationary phase through the serial coupling of columns. This can be implemented with any type of column using compatible elution conditions and conventional instruments. This review describes the key features of column coupling and published procedures, where two or more columns were coupled in series to solve separation problems. In all reports, the authors could not resolve their samples with single columns, whereas significant enhancement in chromatographi…

Oxygen uptake by excised gills ofProcambarus clarkii (Girard) from albufera lake of Valencia, Spain, under heavy metal treatments
1986
The American red crayfish Procambarus clarkii, originally from Louisiana (USA) was introduced in Spain in the 70's in the Guadalquivir River swamps. It appeared first randomly and in a more regular basis afterwards since 1978 in the Albufera Lake south of Valencia and in the surrounding rice fields. Albufera lake and surrounding rice fields waters are being subject since the last three decades to very heavy load of sewage, toxic industrial residues including heavy metals and pesticides from the many urban and industrial settlements in the zone. In the present study, the authors have investigated the effect that heavy metals (Chromium, Cadmium and Mercury) have on the oxygen uptake by excise…

Variability of Classification Results in Data with High Dimensionality and Small Sample Size
2021
The study focuses on the analysis of biological data containing information on the number of genome sequences of intestinal microbiome bacteria before and after antibiotic use. The data have high dimensionality (bacterial taxa) and a small number of records, which is typical of bioinformatics data. Classification models induced on data sets like this usually are not stable and the accuracy metrics have high variance. The aim of the study is to create a preprocessing workflow and a classification model that can perform the most accurate classification of the microbiome into groups before and after the use of antibiotics and lessen the variability of accuracy measures of the classifier. To ev…
