Association between antifungal prophylaxis and rate of documented bacteremia in febrile neutropenic cancer patients.

Published data have suggested a correlation between antifungal prophylaxis and bacteremia in febrile neutropenia. This correlation was investigated among 3002 febrile neutropenic patients enrolled in 4 trials during 1986-1994. Globally, 1322 patients (44%) did not receive antifungal prophylaxis; 835 (28%) received poorly absorbable antifungal agents and 845 (28%) received absorbable antifungal agents. The rates of bacteremia for these groups were 20%, 26%, and 27%, respectively (P=.0001). TRIPLET SCHEDULE OF WEEKLY 5-FLUOROURACIL AND ALTERNATING IRINOTECAN OR OXALIPLATIN IN ADVANCED COLORECTAL CANCER: A DOSE-FINDING AND PHASE II STUDY.

A weekly administration of alternating irinotecan or oxaliplatin associated to 5-Fluorouracil in advanced colorectal cancer was planned in order to evaluate a new schedule maintaining dose intensities of each drug as in double combinations and tolerability of the triplet association. The following weekly schedule was administered: irinotecan, days 1 and 15; oxaliplatin, days 8 and 22; 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) over 12-h (from 10:00 p.m. to 10:00 a.m.) timed flat infusion, days 1-2, 8-9, 15-16 and 22-23, every 4 weeks. Purpose: This phase II trial assessed the tolerability and efficacy of a triplet of oxaliplatin, irinotecan, and fluorouracil/folinic acid in advanced gastric cancer. Methods: Patients with unresectable or metastatic gastric cancer, unexposed to palliative chemotherapy, received oxaliplatin 85 mg/m 2 iv and irinotecan 150 mg/m2 iv on day 1, 6S-folinic acid 250 mg/m2 iv and fluorouracil 750 mg/m2 iv on day 2, every 2 weeks. Linkage analysis and disease models in benign familial infantile seizures: a study of 16 families.

Summary: Purpose: Benign familial infantile seizures (BFIS) is a genetically heterogeneous condition characterized by partial seizures, onset age from 3 to 9 months, and favorable outcome. BFIS loci were identified on chromosomes 19q12-13.1 and 16p12-q12, allelic to infantile convulsions and choreathetosis. The identification of SCN2A mutations in families with only infantile seizures indicated that BFNIS and BFIS may show overlapping clinical features. The main focus of this work is the usability of this system for vaccine safety assessment programme.
