PCOS Phenotypes: Impact on Fertility

2018

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is characterised by an extreme heterogeneity and at least four main phenotypes may be distinguished. In referred population, anovulatory hyperandrogenic phenotype (classic PCOS or phenotypes A and B) is by far the most common phenotype and presents the most severe endocrine and metabolic alterations. Ovulatory PCOS and normoandrogenic phenotype represent a mild form of PCOS that is more common in general population and/or (normoandrogenic) in some particular ethnic group. During their life, because of changes in lifestyle or because of spontaneous changes in ovarian and adrenal androgen secretion that occur during late reproductive age, patients may move fro…

Proteinuria-Microalbuminuria in Renal Damage

2015

Proteinuria (P) usually results from an insult in the glomerular and/or tubular structures of the kidney. It has been considered a marker of risk not only to develop renal insufficiency but also to suffer cardiovascular events, based on prospective studies carried out in the general population as well as in diabetic and hypertensive patients [1]. In fact, proteinuria has been considered a strong marker of risk and an intermediate endpoint during treatment [2, 3].

Additional file 1: of Aurora Kinase A expression predicts platinum-resistance and adverse outcome in high-grade serous ovarian carcinoma patients

2016

Figure S1. Correlation of platinum sensitivity status with survival. Kaplan Meier curves of EOC patients grouped according to platinum sensitive (PS) or resistant (PR) disease. Patients with a platinum sensitive ovarian cancer presents a significant longer survival thus confirming the reliability of the sample. (JPG 182 kb)

Serum inhibin A, inhibin B, pro-alphaC, and activin A levels in women with idiopathic premature ovarian failure.

2003

Serum inhibin A, inhibin B, pro-alphaC, and activin A levels in 30 women with idiopathic premature ovarian failure (POF), 30 postmenopausal women, and 30 age-matched fertile women were determined. Women with POF showed low levels of inhibin A and inhibin B, but not of activin A, whereas the levels of pro-alphaC were significantly higher than in postmenopausal women. Thus, the circulating level of pro-alphaC could be a marker for assessing residual ovarian function in women with POF.

Primary Epithelial Ovarian Neoplasms: New Concepts Concerning Origin, Pathogenesis and Classification Based on Morphology, Immunomarkers, Molecular F…

2011

The World Health Organization (WHO) classification of ovarian tumors, which first appeared in 1983 and since then has undergone a number of revisions, is based on morphologic features as well as on the concept that each category of ovarian tumors develops from a specific ovarian cell. According to this histogenetic classification, all the epithelial ovarian neoplasms are derived from the ovarian surface epithelium and/or from ovarian inclusion cysts, which are lined by the above epithelial cells. In recent years, a new approach to morphologic data, increasing presumptive evidence that the cell of origin of most, if not all, ovarian epithelial tumors may be extraovarian, especially from fall…

Ovarian size and blood flow in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and their correlations with some endocrine parameters

2005

Objective: To determine how common polycystic ovarian morphology may be in women given the clinical diagnosis of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) based on chronic anovulation and hyperandrogenism and whether certain hormonal factors correlate with ovarian morphology and blood flow. Design: Prospective study. Setting: Two academic endocrinology centers in Italy. Patient(s): Three hundred twenty-six women with PCOS and 50 age-matched and weight-matched ovulatory women. Intervention(s): Ultrasound assessment of ovarian morphology in patients and controls and ovarian blood flow and fasting hormone levels in a subset of 50 patients and matched controls. Main Outcome Measure(s): Ovarian morpholog…
