Applying phenomenography in guidance and counselling research
2017
This paper examines phenomenography as a viable qualitative approach in guidance and counselling research. A phenomenographic study maps the qualitatively different ways in which people experience a specific phenomenon and helps researchers to describe the aspects that make one way of experiencing a certain phenomenon qualitatively distinct from another. This paper presents an overview of phenomenographic research, encompassing theoretical, methodological and practical considerations. The application of this approach in guidance and counselling studies is illustrated with examples. peerReviewed
Career experts’ conceptions of innovation in career development
2021
AbstractThis article reports the findings from a phenomenographic investigation into career experts’ conceptions of innovation in career development. The results show that conceptions of innovation in career development varied from (1) initiating service, (2) developing demographic-based programmes, (3) professionalising the sector to (4) exploiting cross-sectoral synergies. The findings give us a more profound understanding of critical aspects that may have an important role in improving innovation in career development.
Liikunta-alan tutkintokoulutuksen merkitykset valmistuneiden elämänkertomuksissa : fenomenografinen analyysi
2021
Kutsussa osallistujia pyydettiin kirjoittamaan tutkimusta varten oma urateemainen elämäntarinansa. Kertomusaineisto analysoitiin fenomenografisesti etsimällä tekste…
Tappeleva rapuhirviö : kauhun estetiikka lastenkulttuurissa
2016
Horror in picture books aimed at children appears in many forms and may be interpreted in multiple ways. It may include ghosts and monsters, nightmares and existential fears, or, violence and content labelled as “difficult”. These elements may be portrayed and interpreted as intellectually challenging and up- lifting, as cute, normal and ”not really frightening”, or as something violent and harmful or possibly empowering. In other words, cultural horror and the ways in which we discuss or use it may aim to shock, to reassure, or to entertain. The chosen way of meaning making depends on and reflects the social positioning and performative aims of the producer or interpreter. In this study, t…

Riflessioni su pandemia e comunicazione politica: l’interesse online per leader e partiti
2021
Has the pandemic reversed trends already taking place in contemporary politics or has it reinforced ongoing political phenomena? The serious health risk posed by the spread of Covid-19 has in fact legitimised dynamics that more or less silently had long been spreading, including the personalisation of politics, the (alleged) disintermediation of communication, different populist styles, the danger of authoritarian drifts. The challenges to democracy identified by the political literature, as the pandemic spreads, are enriched by new elements. Trust in national institutions, which has been years marked by a negative trend, in countertendency has increased during the peak of the epidemic. new…
Khaldūn: “Solidarietà e cambiamento”
2021
Khaldūn has been compared to Machiavelli, Bodin, Vico, Montesquieu, Adam Smith, Condorcet, Hegel, August Comte, Herbert Spencer and many other Western thinkers. His economic analysis has been compared to that of Marx. Although many associate his work with that of sociology and the social sciences, because of its focus on the observation of reality, others question this analogy because of the absence of a scientific method. His pioneering reflections and some of the concepts he developed, such as that of solidarity, still appear to be of extreme heuristic value for the social sciences from an unprecedented point of view.

2020
To explore the conceptions of patients with persistent low back pain (LBP) of undergoing physiotherapy delivered in Finnish primary healthcare by physiotherapists who had participated in brief training in Cognitive Functional Therapy (CFT). As part of a feasibility implementation study exploring CFT in management of LBP in the Finnish primary healthcare system, we interviewed nine patients from four geographical areas in Finland after receiving care. We used a phenomenographic approach to explore the variation in their conceptions. The analysis revealed four descriptive categories: “hung out to dry,” “stuck,” “making sense and taking control,” and “holistic approach to care and living,” tha…
Mitä filosofi tekee psykiatrisella klinikalla, Thomas Fuchs?
2019
Saksassa Heidelbergin yliopistoklinikalla on pitkät perinteet filosofian ja psykiatrian yhteistyölle. Fenomenologisen psykiatrian ja psykoterapian tutkimusyksikköä johtava professori Thomas Fuchs kertoo, miten fenomenologista tutkimusta tehdään psykiatrisessa sairaalassa ja kuinka hänen omat filosofiset sitoumuksensa tulevat esille potilastyössä. Keskustelumme klinikalla valotti hänen ajattelunsa pääpiirteitä kehollisuudesta, tunteiden filosofiasta ja tiedostamattomasta. Fuchs käsittää tunteet vuorovaikutteisina, ruumiillisina ja tilallisina ilmiöinä ja väittää, ettei tiedostamaton sijaitse psyyken syvyyksissä vaan on kehollisesti eletty ja koettu. nonPeerReviewed
