Presentation and outcome of tuberculous meningitis in adults in the province of Castellon, Spain: a retrospective study

SUMMARYThe aim of this study was to describe the epidemiological and clinical features of tuberculous meningitis in the province of Castellon, Spain. Retrospective analysis was done of all cases attended during the last 15 years. The following groups of variables were assessed: sociodemographic data, medical antecedents, clinical presentation, imaging study results, analyses, cerebrospinal fluid microbiology, treatment, and outcome. ABSTRACT The pharmacokinetic profiles, safety, and efficacies of different dosing schedules of posaconazole oral suspension in patients with possible, probable, and proven refractory invasive fungal infection (rIFI) or febrile neutropenia (FN) were evaluated in a multicenter, open-label, parallel-group study. Sixty-six patients with FN and 32 patients with rIFI were randomly assigned to one of three posaconazole regimens: 200 mg four times a day (q.i.d.) for nine doses, followed by 400 mg twice a day (b.i.d.); 400 mg q.i.d. for nine doses, followed by 600 mg b.i.d.; or 800 mg b.i.d. for five doses, followed by 800 mg once a day (q.d.). Autoinflammatory disorders (AIDs) are a novel class of diseases elicited by mutations in genes regulating the homeostasis of innate immune complexes, named inflammasomes, which lead to uncontrolled oversecretion of the proinflammatory cytokine interleukin-1β. Protean inflammatory symptoms are variably associated with periodic fever, depicting multiple specific conditions. Background: In this cross-sectional, international study, we aimed to analyze vector-borne and zoonotic infections (VBZI), which are significant global threats. Method: VBZIs’ data between May 20–28, 2018 was collected. The 24 Participatingcountries were classified as lower-middle, upper-middle, and high-income. Results: 382 patients were included. 175(45.8%) were hospitalized, most commonly in Croatia, Egypt, and Romania(P = 0.001). The presence of lice in Italy and an increasing number of cases in migrants can contribute to the onset of autochthonous cases. In this paper, we report a new case of Louse-borne Relapsing Fever (LBRF) diagnosed among migrants in Sicily exactly one year after the first case was recorded.
