On the gonality and the slope of a fibered surface

Abstract Let f : X → B be a locally non-trivial relatively minimal fibration of curves of genus g ≥ 2 . We obtain a lower bound of the slope λ ( f ) increasing with the gonality of the general fiber of f. In particular, we show that λ ( f ) ≥ 4 provided that f is non-hyperelliptic and g ≥ 16 .
Automorphisms of $mathbb{A}^{1}$-fibered affine surfaces

We develop technics of birational geometry to study automorphisms of affine surfaces admitting many distinct rational fibrations, with a particular focus on the interactions between automorphisms and these fibrations. In particular, we associate to each surface S of this type a graph encoding equivalence classes of rational fibrations from which it is possible to decide for instance if the automorphism group of S is generated by automorphisms preserving these fibrations.
Structural properties of core and surface of silica nanoparticles investigated by Raman spectroscopy

We studied the experimental Raman spectra of various commercial silica nanoparticles of average diameter from 7 to 40 nm and specific surface from 50 to 380 m2/g. We found that the peculiarities of the particles Raman spectra systematically depend on their specific surface. In detail, the peak position of the R band at about 440 cm−1 shifts towards high wavenumbers following an almost linear dependence on the specific surface. Similarly, the amplitudes of the D1 and D2 bands, at about 495 and 605 cm−1, respectively, increase linearly with the same quantity. A 3D computational homogenization method based on X-ray microcomputed tomography (μCT) was proposed and implemented to investigate how the fiber weight fraction, orthotropy and orientation distribution affect the effective elastic properties of regenerated cellulose fiber-polylactic acid (PLA) biocomposites. There is considered the full mathematical model of chemical reactions on the surface of glass fibre material that was imbedded in the flow of acid solution and was pulled longitudionally. Self-similar forms of this model are obtained and their approximations by monotone schemes of differences are proposed. Some special cases which make possible to get the analytic solutions are underlined. Evaluation of the orientation distribution of fibers from reflection images of fibrous samples

We consider illumination systems and mathematical algorithms for determination of the anisotropy and topographical features of an illuminated surface from its reflection images. As a particular example we study determination of the fiber orientation of paper surface. We also consider illumination systems with multiple light sources, and introduce optimization algorithms that exploit different spectral bands of these light sources. We show that a system of three light sources, e.g., a blue, green and red LED placed in a regular triangular form, efficiently prevents distortion of the above features. Although generally considered a prototypical movement disorder, Parkinson's disease is commonly associated with a broad-spectrum of non-motor symptoms, including autonomic dysfunctions caused by significant alterations in catecholaminergic neurons of the peripheral sympathetic nervous system. Here we present evidence that alpha-synuclein is highly expressed by sympathetic ganglion neurons throughout embryonic and postnatal life and that it is found in tyrosine hydroxylase-positive sympathetic fibers innervating the heart of adult mice. Focal adhesions are hotspots for keratin filament precursor formation

Recent studies showed that keratin filament (KF) formation originates primarily from sites close to the actin-rich cell cortex. To further characterize these sites, we performed multicolor fluorescence imaging of living cells and found drastically increased KF assembly in regions of elevated actin turnover, i.e., in lamellipodia. Abundant KF precursors (KFPs) appeared within these areas at the distal tips of actin stress fibers, moving alongside the stress fibers until their integration into the peripheral KF network. The taste buds in the soft palate and the circumvallate papillae of the rat were investigated by the zinc iodide-osmium tetroxide technique. In addition, electron micrographs of taste buds stained with this method were presented for the first time. Differences in taste bud structures were found between the examined regions. The taste buds of the soft palate showed a complicated plexus of intragemmal nerve fibers. Some fibers exhibited terminal polymorphic swellings. Single branches could be traced close to the space of the taste pore.
