Prolonged prothrombin time, Factor VII and activated FVII levels in chronic liver disease are partly dependent on Factor VII gene polymorphisms

Abstract Background. Prothrombin time is a benchmark for functional assessment in cirrhosis and Factor VII levels (FVII), crucial in determining the prothrombin time, are genetically determined. Methods. We have evaluated the prothrombin time, a number of haemostatic variables synthesised by the liver (FII, FV, FVII and activated FVII, AT and fibrinogen) and two polymorphisms of the FVII gene (5′F7 and 353R/Q) in: (a) patients with liver cirrhosis ( n  = 118), (b) patients with chronic hepatitis ( n  = 102) and (c) controls ( n  = 100). [Hemostatic effectiveness of TachoSil® patches in radiofrequency assisted minor hepatic resection].

Aim. Intra- and postoperative bleeding represents an extremely serious and frequent complication of hepatic surgery. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of TachoSil (R) to improve hemostasis in radiofrequency assisted minor hepatic resection. Methods. Between July 2008 and June 2010, 31 patients underwent radiofrequency assisted minor hepatic resection. At the end of the liver resection a sponge of TachoSil (R) was applied on the liver. Results. The mean intraoperative bleeding from the liver was 56.1 mL (range 0-300 mL). No patients received intra- and postoperative blood transfusion. Hemostatic, inflammatory, and oxidative markers in pesticide user farmers

Research Article; International audience; The aim of this work was to investigate inflammatory, oxidative, and thrombotic parameters as biomarkers in farmers exposed to pesticides. Fifty farmers using chemical pesticides and 60 unexposed control men participated in this study.
