In un articolo seminale Hauser, Chomsky e Fitch (2002) ipotizzano che la ricorsività sia l’unico meccanismo della facoltà del linguaggio ad essere specifico del linguaggio e dell’architettura cognitiva umana. Mentre il dibattito su tale ipotesi si è per lo più concentrato sul significato del concetto di “ricorsività” (riferimenti) e sulla sua natura specificamente umana (Abe e Watanabe, 2011; cf. Mario Sturzo, bishop and philosopher, was a protagonist of the early 1900’s ecclesial renewal of Sicily in his effort to find a new relationship between the Church and the modern world, Christianity and politics. Obstructed by both the civil authorities and by the clergy, he firmly believed in the utmost need of an intellectual formation of both Church and society. Regenerating the mentality of and delivering freedom to men are both essential dimensions of the same task for the sake of the social welfare of the lower classes.

The essay reconstructs the events of “involtini”, a very popular dish in Italian cuisine, in order to trace the specificities of the Sicilian recipes. In particular, a corpus of recipes is analyzed in order to identify the recurring narrative programs in the preparation of the Sicilian “involtini”, distinguishing variations and invariant forms. Particular attention is given to the conformation of the gastronomic object itself and its arrangement on the plate. By comparing other types and sizes of similar gastronomic objects, it is highlighted how cultural and political meanings can be identified in the sense of the “involtini”.

Avicenna is a strong proponent of what some of the later ones call qāʻidat al-wāḥid or ‘rule of the one’ (RO). The gist of RO states: from the one only one directly proceeds. In the secondary literature, discussion of this Avicennian rule is usually limited to a particular application of it i.e., the issue of emanation. As result, it’s not really clear what RO means, nor why Avicenna endorsed it. In this paper, I try and remedy this situation by doing two things – one on the taṣawwur front, the other on the tasdīq.
