Search for Standard Model Higgs Boson Production in Association with a W Boson at CDF

We present a search for the standard model Higgs boson production in association with a W boson in proton-antiproton collisions (pp̅ →W±H→ℓνbb̅ ) at a center of mass energy of 1.96 TeV. The search employs data collected with the CDF II detector which correspond to an integrated luminosity of approximately 2.7  fb-1. We recorded this data with two kinds of triggers. The first kind required high-pT charged leptons and the second required both missing transverse energy and jets. The search selects events consistent with a signature of a single lepton (e±/μ±), missing transverse energy, and two jets. Microbiome response to foam fractionation and ozonation in RAS

Efficient water treatment is required to maintain high water quality and control microbial growth in recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS). Here, we examined the effects of two treatment methods, ozonation and foam fractionation, separately and combined, on the microbiology in twelve identical experimental RAS with rainbow trout (Oncorhyncus mykiss) during 8 weeks. Microbes suspended in water and growing in biofilter biofilms were examined using flow cytometry analysis and high throughput sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene. The modulation transfer function and signal-to-noise ratio of different digital filters: a technical approach.

The aim of this study was to illustrate the influence of digital filters on the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and modulation transfer function (MTF) of digital images. The article will address image pre-processing that may be beneficial for the production of clinically useful digital radiographs with lower radiation dose.Three filters, an arithmetic mean filter, a median filter and a Gaussian filter (standard deviation (SD) = 0.4), with kernel sizes of 3 × 3 pixels and 5 × 5 pixels were tested. An experimental approach to efficiency calibration for gamma-ray spectrometric analysis of large air particulate filters

Abstract A full-energy-peak efficiency (FEPE) calibration procedure for gamma-ray spectrometric analysis of air particulate samples collected on large filters is described herein. The experimental results are obtained for an unconventional measurement geometry, termed a “packet-sample”. The sample is obtained from a large cellulose filter (45 cm×45 cm) used to collect air particulate samples that is resized to dimensions suitable for spectrometric measurements (6 cm×6 cm×0.7 cm). Abstract Photoemission electron microscopy (PEEM) is widely used in combination with synchrotron sources as a powerful tool to observe chemical and magnetic properties of metal and semiconductor surfaces. Multipole WIEN-filter for a high-resolution X-PEEM

Abstract The development and construction of an X-PEEM with integral multipole WIEN-filter for spectromicroscopy with high lateral resolution is presented. All relevant electron-optical properties of the filter have been examined by field and trajectory calculations. Electric and magnetic multipole components (dipole, quadrupole and hexapole) can be chosen independently from each other, thus allowing electron-optical corrections. Generalization of Canny–Deriche filter for detection of noisy exponential edge

This paper presents a generalization of the Canny-Deriche filter for ramp edge detection with optimization criteria used by Canny (signal-to-noise ratio, localization, and suppression of false responses). Using techniques similar to those developed by Deriche, we derive a filter which maximizes the product of the first two criteria under the constraint of the last one. The result is an infinite length impulse response filter which leads to a stable third-order recursive implementation. Its performance shows an increase of the signal-to-noise ratio in the case of blurred and noisy images, compared to the results obtained from Deriche's filter.

Online topology estimation for vector autoregressive processes in data networks

An important problem in data sciences pertains to inferring causal interactions among a collection of time series. Upon modeling these as a vector autoregressive (VAR) process, this paper deals with estimating the model parameters to identify the underlying causality graph. To exploit the sparse connectivity of causality graphs, the proposed estimators minimize a group-Lasso regularized functional.
