Coordination and profit rate maximization

1995

We study the effects over the coordination between firms of the choice of another objectivefunction for the firm: the profit rate maximization which seems to be closer to business practice than the classical pure profit maximization. After recalling the effect of the new objective function over the optimum (the optimal production is lower), two cases are considered : perfect competition (the price signal disappear), and duopoly-oligopoly (the functions of reactions may vanish).

The HOTELLING model : contributions and limits (application to the case where strategic variables are localizations and prices)

1991

The inconvenience yield of carbon futures

2021

Abstract Since 2009, the European Carbon Futures Market has been in a permanent contango situation that is characterised by systematic negative convenience yields that allow investors to exploit profitable arbitrage opportunities. The objective of this paper is to analyse the possible drivers of these negative convenience yields. Our empirical results indicate that although some carbon trading variables are behind this contango situation, the carbon inconvenience yield is better explained if other financial markets and variables are considered, suggesting a financialization of the European Carbon Futures Market.

2018

[EN] The main aim of this paper is to study the convergence between micro and macro systems of government accounting information, looking to contribute to the analysis of accounting harmonization process in the EU, as a tool to improve the comparability of financial, budgetary, and aggregated statistical reports, in order to improve social, political and economic decision-making and accountability. All this is obviously located in the current context of the EU, with a high degree of harmonization of accounting standards between the International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS), and those applied for the preparation of national accounts, ruled by European System of National and Re…

Viral tunes:changes in musical behaviours and interest in coronamusic predict socio-emotional coping during COVID-19 lockdown

2021

AbstractBeyond immediate health risks, the COVID-19 pandemic poses a variety of stressors, which may require expensive or unavailable strategies during a pandemic (e.g., therapy, socialising). Here, we asked whether musical engagement is an effective strategy for socio-emotional coping. During the first lockdown period (April–May 2020), we surveyed changes in music listening and making behaviours of over 5000 people, with representative samples from three continents. More than half of respondents reported engaging with music to cope. People experiencing increased negative emotions used music for solitary emotional regulation, whereas people experiencing increased positive emotions used musi…

Work, Time and Family: Is It Possible to Identify European Family Working Time Regimes?

2018

Overall in Europe, over the past decades there has been a shift from the male-breadwinner to the dual-earner model, but with a varying pace, and it has even been claimed that the rise of the dual earning households is one of the most significant social trends that has impacted European societies. In order to capture more carefully the variation of the family working time patterns, research has clustered European countries into family working time regimes or clusters. As men’s position in the labour market has been more stable over time, the change in women’s position in the labour markets is the core of explaining the changing family work patterns. Research has shown that family working tim…
