Analytical evaluation of first-order electrical properties based on the spin-free Dirac-Coulomb Hamiltonian.

2011

We report an analytical scheme for the calculation of first-order electrical properties using the spin-free Dirac-Coulomb (SFDC) Hamiltonian, thereby exploiting the well-developed density-matrix formulations in nonrelativistic coupled-cluster (CC) derivative theory. Orbital relaxation effects are fully accounted for by including the relaxation of the correlated orbitals with respect to orbitals of all types, viz., frozen-core, occupied, virtual, and negative energy state orbitals. To demonstrate the applicability of the presented scheme, we report benchmark calculations for first-order electrical properties of the hydrogen halides, HX with X = F, Cl, Br, I, At, and a first application to th…

Simulation of the operation of detention tanks.

2005

The performance of detention tanks with different characteristics (volume, on-line and off-line arrangement) has been evaluated according to the results of a continuous simulation. The conceptual simplified model for sewer system simulation (COSMOSS) model has been used to simulate the operation of the tanks. The differences between the performance of on-line and off-line tanks and the influence of the characteristics of different catchments have been examined. According to the results of the simulations detention tanks demonstrated good performances in total suspended solids retention and this evenience can certainly help to prevent water pollution of receiving water bodies in urban areas,…

Sepsis at ICU admission does not decrease 30-day survival in very old patients : a post-hoc analysis of the VIP1 multinational cohort study

2020

AbstractBackgroundThe number of intensive care patients aged ≥ 80 years (Very old Intensive Care Patients; VIPs) is growing. VIPs have high mortality and morbidity and the benefits of ICU admission are frequently questioned. Sepsis incidence has risen in recent years and identification of outcomes is of considerable public importance. We aimed to determine whether VIPs admitted for sepsis had different outcomes than those admitted for other acute reasons and identify potential prognostic factors for 30-day survival.ResultsThis prospective study included VIPs with Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) scores ≥ 2 acutely admitted to 307 ICUs in 21 European countries. Of 3869 acutely admi…

Part I: Relationship among Training Load Management, Salivary Immunoglobulin A, and Upper Respiratory Tract Infection in Team Sport: A Systematic Rev…

2021

Immunoglobulin A (IgA), which is the first line of defense against upper respiratory tract viruses, has been related with training load management. This article aimed to systematically identify and summarize (1) the studies that have found a relationship between training load and salivary IgA in team sports, and (2) the studies that have highlighted a relationship between IgA and upper respiratory tract infection (URTI) in team sports. A systematic review of relevant articles was carried out using two electronic databases (PubMed and WoK) until 3 October 2020. From a total of 174 studies initially found, 24 were included in the qualitative synthesis. This systematic review confirmed that lo…

Effects of prior economic education, native language, and gender on economic knowledge of first-year students in higher education. A comparative stud…

2015

The assessment of university students’ economic knowledge has become an increasingly important research area within and across countries. Particularly, the different influences of prior education, native language, and gender as some of the main prerequisites on students’ economic knowledge have been highlighted since long. However, the findings are often only available within countries and focus on students who are at different levels of their studies or graduates. To remedy this research deficit, the goal of our article is to analyze the status of economic knowledge of students at the beginning of their course of studies and compare the effects of prior economic education, gender, and nati…

An Ehrenfeucht-Fraïssé Approach to Collapse Results for First-Order Queries over Embedded Databases

2001

We present a new proof technique for collapse results for first-order queries on databases which are embedded in N or R>o. Our proofs are by means of an explicitly constructed winning strategy for Duplicator in an Ehrenfeucht-FraissE game, and can deal with certain infinite databases where previous, highly involved methods fail. Our main result is that first-order logic has the natural-generic collapse over {N,≤ ,+} for arbitrary (i.e., possibly infinite) databases. Furthermore, a first application of this result shows the natural-generic collapse of first-order logic over {R>o,≤,+} for a certain kind of databases over R>o which consist of a possibly infinite number of regions.

First passage time distribution of stationary Markovian processes

2010

The aim of this paper is to investigate how the correlation properties of a stationary Markovian stochastic processes affect the First Passage Time distribution. First Passage Time issues are a classical topic in stochastic processes research. They also have relevant applications, for example, in many fields of finance such as the assessment of the default risk for firms' assets. By using some explicit examples, in this paper we will show that the tail of the First Passage Time distribution crucially depends on the correlation properties of the process and it is independent from its stationary distribution. When the process includes an infinite set of time-scales bounded from above, the FPT…

Risky choices in strategic environments: An experimental investigation of a real options game

2019

Managers frequently make decisions under conditions of fundamental uncertainty due the stochastic nature of the outcomes and competitive rivalry. In this study, we experimentally test a theoretical model under fundamental uncertainty and competitive rivalry by designing a sequential interaction game between two players. The first mover can decide either to choose a sure outcome that assigns a risky outcome to the second mover or to pass the decision to the second mover. If the second player gets the chance to decide, she can choose between a sure outcome, conditioned by the assignment of a risky payoff to the first mover, or the sharing of the risky outcome with the first mover. We then int…

PluriTAV: desarrollo de las competencias plurilingües mediante el uso de la traducción audiovisual

2018

[EN] This piece of work introduces the PluriTAV (Audiovisual Translation as a Tool for the Development of Multilingual Competences in the Classroom) research project. This project is staked on one of the most recent approaches of foreign language teaching, the multilingual approach, in which not only the language being studied (or taught) but also the linguistic repertoire of the classroom are taken into account. The project, focused on the teaching and perfecting of language, is based on the said approach and draws on a field related to foreign language teaching, audiovisual translation, so that through it, one can learn a foreign language, perfect mother tongue abilities and develop multi…

Synthesis and structure of the incomplete cuboidal clusters [W3Se4H3(dmpe)3]+, [W3Se4H3−x(OH)x(dmpe)3]+and [W3Se4(OH)3(dmpe)3]+, and the mechanism of…

2004

The novel incomplete cuboidal cluster [W3Se4H3(dmpe)3](PF6), [1](PF6), has been prepared by reduction of [W3Se4Br3(dmpe)3](PF6) with LiBH4 in THF solution. The trihydroxo complex [W3Se4(OH)3(dmpe)3](PF6), [2](PF6), was obtained by reacting [W3Se4Br3(dmpe)3](PF6) with NaOH in MeCN–H2O solution. The complexes [1](PF6) and [2](PF6) were converted to their BPh4− salts by treatment with NaBPh4. Recrystallisation of [1](BPh4) in the presence of traces of water affords the mixed dihydride hydroxo complex [W3Se4H2(OH)(dmpe)3](BPh4). The crystal structures of [1](BPh4), [2](BPh4) and [W3Se4H2(OH)(dmpe)3](BPh4) have been resolved. Although the [1]+ trihydride does not react with an excess of halide s…
