Predicting First-Year College Student Retention: Validation of the College Persistence Questionnaire in a Spanish Sample
2019
This paper analyzes the factorial and predictive validity of a Spanish adaptation of the College Persistence Questionnaire (SCPQ) on the retention of first year students (FYS) at university. The participants were 490 FYS from two public universities in Southern Europe (Spain). Factorial analysis of the SCPQ (&chi

Thrombolysis plus heparin versus heparin alone in the acute phases of unstable angina: preliminary findings
1995
Abstract Several studies have shown conflicting effects of thrombolysis in patients with unstable angina. In these trials the time between presentation with chest pain and randomization was long (12 hours to 3 days). This study compared thrombolysis and heparin with heparin-alone treatment in patients in the acute phase of unstable angina. One hundred fifty-three consecutive patients hospitalized with chest pain at rest (first episode) lasting >5 minutes but P = 0.013). Data suggest that thrombolysis plus heparin produces faster clinical stabilization than heparin alone in patients treated during the acute phase of unstable angina.
Recurrent venous thromboembolism complicated by heparin-induced thrombocytopenia as a first manifestation of an occult cancer: a case report.
2008
Heparin-Induced Trombocytopenia (HIT) is a serious and potentially fatal complication of patients on heparins. Its management is difficult and it can be more complicated in patients with cancer because of the hemorrhagic risk carried out by direct inhibitor of thrombin, the currently approved drug for HIT. At present, it is not clear whether cancer patients also have an increased risk of HIT. We describe the case of a patient with occult cancer at the moment of the index venous thrombosis, who developed Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) and concomitant HIT with thrombotic complications (recurrent contralateral venous thrombosis). The management of HIT was efficaciously based on the combined use o…
F115POLYGENIC RISK SCORES FOR SCHIZOPHRENIA, BIPOLAR, AND MAJOR DEPRESSIVE DISORDERS PREDICT TRANSDIAGNOSTIC SYMPTOM DIMENSIONS AT FIRST EPISODE PSYC…
2019
Background: The value of the nosological distinction between non-affective and affective psychosis has consistently been challenged. Indeed, psychotic syndromes are composed of dimensions of psychopathology cutting across diagnostic boundaries. Such transdiagnostic symptom dimensions might be enhanced phenotypes to test for association with common genetic variants for Major Mental Disorders (MMDs) as summarized by Polygenic Risk Scores (PRSs) for Schizophrenia (SZ), Bipolar Disorder (BP), and Major Depressive Disorder (MDD). The objectives of this study were to: 1) identify the symptom dimension structure at First Episode Psychosis (FEP); 2) examine the extent to which MMDs PRSs explain the…
Efficient parallel tempering for first-order phase transitions
2007
We present a Monte Carlo algorithm that facilitates efficient parallel tempering simulations of the density of states g(E) . We show that the algorithm eliminates the supercritical slowing down in the case of the Q=20 and Q=256 Potts models in two dimensions, typical examples for systems with extreme first-order phase transitions. As recently predicted, and shown here, the microcanonical heat capacity along the calorimetric curve has negative values for finite systems.
Teodors Celms, Kurt Stavenhagen and Phenomenology in Latvia
2002
The origin of phenomenology in Latvia is connected with the name of Teodors Celms (1893–1989), a student of Edmund Husserl and a philosopher of the first generation of interpreters and critics within the phenomenological movement.
La vida cotidiana de los vecinos de Manila a través de sus testamentos e inventarios de bienes
2019
With the general objective indicated in its title, this work tries to highlight relevant aspects in the continuity of the Spanish domain in the Philippines, dependent on the maintenance of the Spanish capital. The inevitable selection of topics has lead the preferences of this work towards the residents collaboration to defend the city, the conversion of many of them into traders of exotic products and singular slaves owners, and their collaboration to an incredible miscegenation due to the ethnic variety. On the other hand, to follow the footsteps of the first generation of residents in Manila, at the end of the 16th century and during the 17th century, this work gives us some information …
