2022

It describes the procedural process for replacing grades with descriptive judgments in the assessment of the learning objectives of primary school pupils starting from the academic year. 2020-21. This process is compared with the one followed between 1989 and 1993 for the introduction of assessments in middle school. It is believed that project-based institutional action research is the best way to introduce an innovation into the school system. Fake news and patient-family-physician interaction in critical care: concepts, beliefs and potential countermeasures

2020

Fake news has been defined as fabricated information mimicking media content in form but not in organizational process or intent. Science and medicine are deeply affected by this increasing phenomenon. Critical care represents a hot spot for fake news due to the high risk of conflictive communication, the rapid turnaround of clinical news and high prevalence of unpleasant information. Communication with patients' relatives is one of the hardest aspects. The relationship between physicians and families is pivotal to improve relatives' comfort, and reduce anxiety and pain. Fake news may undermine this relationship, posing an alternative truth between the critical care physician and relatives,…

Family Business and Habitual Entrepreneurship : Differences and Similarities

2008

This study examines the prevalence of different types of entrepreneurs in the context of family business. In previous studies the family entrepreneurs have been seen loyal to their original firm, whereas relinquishing a firm is substantially connected to the habitual entrepreneurs. It may be one reason why these entrepreneurial dimensions have not been largely connected in previous studies. However, this does not mean that habitual entrepreneurship would not exist in family business. Thus the aim of this study is to explore the connections between habitual entrepreneurship and family business by examining, firstly, how many family entrepreneurs there are among portfolio, serial and first-ti…

First-Episode Psychotic Patients Showed Longitudinal Brain Changes Using fMRI With an Emotional Auditory Paradigm

2020

Most previous longitudinal studies of functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) in first-episode psychosis (FEP) using cognitive paradigm task found an increased activation after antipsychotic medications. We designed an emotional auditory paradigm to explore brain activation during emotional and nonemotional word processing. This study aimed to analyze if longitudinal changes in brain fMRI BOLD activation is present in patients vs. healthy controls. A group of FEP patients (n = 34) received clinical assessment and had a fMRI scan at baseline and follow-up (average, 25-month interval). During the fMRI scan, both emotional and nonemotional words were presented as a block design. Results w…

Children's Temperament and Academic Skill Development During First Grade: Teachers' Interaction Styles as Mediators.

2015

The present study followed 156 Finnish children (Mage = 7.25 years) during the first grade of primary school to examine to what extent parent- and teacher-rated temperament impacts children's math and reading skill development during the first grade, and the extent to which this impact would be mediated by teachers' interaction styles with the children. The results showed that the impact of children's low task orientation and negative emotionality on their math skill development was mediated via teachers' behavioral control and, among girls, also by psychological control. The negative impact of children's inhibition on math skill development, in turn, was not mediated via teachers' interact…

INTERFERENCE PHENOMENA IN FOREIGN LANGUAGE LEARNING- SOME OBSERVATIONS FROM ROMANIAN-ENGLISH CONTACT

2012

Foreign language learning is the locus of varying degrees of interference from the learner’s first language (L1), the product of this influence being called interlanguage. As such, it is important to identify those areas of the L1 which could lead to negative transfers into the target language and thus result in imperfect learning. The present paper is concerned with English learning by speakers of Romanian, and analyses possible L1 retentions resulting from the use of English borrowings that diverge grammatically from their original counterparts. The particular cases described will be those of borrowed words which have undergone a process of conversion, and the use of bilingual verb phrase…
