Common fixed points in cone metric spaces for $MK$-pairs and $L$-pairs

2011

In this paper we introduce some contractive conditions of Meir-Keeler type for a pair of mappings, called $MK$-$pair$ and $L\textrm{-}pair$, in the framework of cone metric spaces and we prove theorems which assure existence and uniqueness of common fixed points for $MK$-$pairs$ and $L \textrm{-}pairs$. As an application we obtain a result of common fixed point of a $p$-$MK$-pair, a mapping and a multifunction, in complete cone metric spaces. These results extend and generalize well-known comparable results in the literature.

Common fixed points of g-quasicontractions and related mappings in 0-complete partial metric spaces

2012

Abstract Common fixed point results are obtained in 0-complete partial metric spaces under various contractive conditions, including g-quasicontractions and mappings with a contractive iterate. In this way, several results obtained recently are generalized. Examples are provided when these results can be applied and neither corresponding metric results nor the results with the standard completeness assumption of the underlying partial metric space can. Existence of fixed point for GP(Λ;Θ)-contractive mappings in GP-metric spaces

2017

We combine some classes of functions with a notion of hybrid $GP_{(\Lambda,\Theta )}$ - $H$ - $F$ - contractive mapping for establishing some  fixed point results in the setting of $GP$-metric spaces. An illustrative example  supports the new theory.

Statistics-preserving bijections between classical and cyclic permutations

2012

Recently, Elizalde (2011) [2] has presented a bijection between the set C"n"+"1 of cyclic permutations on {1,2,...,n+1} and the set of permutations on {1,2,...,n} that preserves the descent set of the first n entries and the set of weak excedances. In this paper, we construct a bijection from C"n"+"1 to S"n that preserves the weak excedance set and that transfers quasi-fixed points into fixed points and left-to-right maxima into themselves. This induces a bijection from the set D"n of derangements to the set C"n"+"1^q of cycles without quasi-fixed points that preserves the weak excedance set. Moreover, we exhibit a kind of discrete continuity between C"n"+"1 and S"n that preserves at each s…

Comparing flow resistance law for fixed and mobile bed rills

2019

Rills caused by run-off concentration on erodible hillslopes have very irregular profiles and cross-section shapes. Rill erosion directly depends on the hydraulics of flow in the rills, which may differ greatly from hydraulics of flow in larger and regular channels. In this paper, a recently theoretically deduced rill flow resistance equation, based on a power–velocity profile, was tested experimentally on plots of varying slopes (ranging from 9% to 26%) in which mobile and fixed bed rills were incised. Initially, measurements of flow velocity, water depth, cross-section area, wetted perimeter, and bed slope, carried out in 320 reaches of mobile bed rills and in 165 reaches of fixed rills, …

Seasonal cycle of benthic denitrification and DNRA in the aphotic coastal zone, northern Baltic Sea

2020

Current knowledge on the seasonality of benthic nitrate reduction pathways in the aphotic, density stratified coastal zone of the Baltic Sea is largely based on data from muddy sediments, neglecting the potential contribution of sandy sediments. To gain a more comprehensive understanding of seasonality in this part of the Baltic Sea coast, we measured rates of benthic denitrification, anammox and dissimilatory nitrate reduction to ammonium (DNRA) monthly in the ice-free period of 2016 in both sandy and muddy aphotic sediments, northwestern Gulf of Finland. No anammox was observed. The seasonal cycle of denitrification in both sediment types was related to the hydrography-driven development …

Meta-heuristic Algorithms for Nesting Problem of Rectangular Pieces

2017

Abstract Nesting problems consist of placing multiple items onto larger shapes finding a good arrangement. The goal of the nesting process is to minimize the waste of material. It is common to assume, as in the present work, that the stock sheet has fixed width and infinite height, since in the real world a company may have to cut pieces from a roll of material. The complexity of such problems is often faced with a two-stage approach, so-called “hybrid algorithm”, combining a placement routine and a meta-heuristic algorithm. Starting from a given positioning sequence, the placement routine generates a non-overlapping configuration. The encoded solution is manipulated and modified by the met…

Clothoid-Based Three-Dimensional Curve for Attitude Planning

2019

Interest in flying robots, also known as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), has grown during last years in both military and civil fields [1, 2]. The same happens to autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) [3]. These vehicles, UAVs and AUVs, offer a wide variety of possible applications and challenges, such as control, guidance or navigation [2, 3]. In this sense, heading and attitude control in UAVs is very important [4], particularly relevant in airplanes (fixed-wing flying vehicles), because they are strongly non-linear, coupled, and tend to be underactuated systems with non-holonomic constraints. Hence, designing a good attitude controller is a difficult task [5, 6, 7, 8, 9], where stabilit…

A note on best proximity point theory using proximal contractions

2018

In this paper, a reduction technique is used to show that some recent results on the existence of best proximity points for various classes of proximal contractions can be concluded from the corresponding results in fixed point theory.
