Time-of-flight photoelectron emission microscopy TOF-PEEM: first results

The time structure of the synchrotron radiation at BESSY (Berlin) is used to operate a photoemission electron microscope in a time-of-flight (TOF) mode. The electrons which are emitted from the sample surface with different energies are dispersed in a drift tube subsequent to the imaging optics. The screen of the microscope was replaced by a fast scintillator (tau = 1.4 ns) and the light is detected by an ultra fast gated intensified CCD camera (800 ps gate 1 MHz repetition rate). Flight Control Research Laboratory Unmanned Aerial System flying in turbulent air: an algorithm for parameter identification from flight data

This work addresses the identification of the dynamics of the research aircraft FCRL (Flight Control Research Laboratory) used for the Italian National Research Project PRIN2008 accounting for atmospheric turbulence. The subject vehicle is an unpressurized 2 seats, 427 kg maximum take of weight aircraft. It features a non retractable, tailwheel, landing gear and a powerplant made up of reciprocating engine capable of developing 60 HP, with a 60 inches diameter, two bladed, fixed pitch., tractor propeller. Scattering lengths and universality in superdiffusive L\'evy materials

We study the effects of scattering lengths on L\'evy walks in quenched one-dimensional random and fractal quasi-lattices, with scatterers spaced according to a long-tailed distribution. By analyzing the scaling properties of the random-walk probability distribution, we show that the effect of the varying scattering length can be reabsorbed in the multiplicative coefficient of the scaling length. This leads to a superscaling behavior, where the dynamical exponents and also the scaling functions do not depend on the value of the scattering length. Competition elicits different psychological and cardiovascular responses depending on a person's skills. Decision-making has been considered a distal factor that influences competition, but there are no studies analyzing this relationship. Our objective was to analyze whether decision-making affects the response to competition. Specifically, we aimed to test whether good performers on a decision-making test, the Iowa Gambling Task (IGT), showed an adaptive cardiovascular response to competition. After a short excursion from discovery of Brownian motion to the Richardson "law of four thirds" in turbulent diffusion, the article introduces the L\'{e}vy flight superdiffusion as a self-similar L\'{e}vy process. The condition of self-similarity converts the infinitely divisible characteristic function of the L\'{e}vy process into a stable characteristic function of the L\'{e}vy motion. The L\'{e}vy motion generalizes the Brownian motion on the base of the $\alpha$-stable distributions theory and fractional order derivatives.
