The extrabasinal elements in Lower Pennsylvanian floras of the Maritime Provinces, Canada: Description of Adiantites, Pseudadiantites and Rhacopterid…

2021

Adiantites adiantoide s (Lindley and Hutton) Kidston, Pseudadiantites sessilis (Roehl) Gothan and Pseudadiantites rhomboideus (Ettingshausen) comb. nov. are figured and described as well as Rhacopteridium speciosum (Ettingshausen) Hirmer, as part of a revision of lower Pennsylvanian floras of Nova Scotia. These species show a foliar branching structure which is described as "pseudopinnate" as against the fully planated pinnate structure of the Palaeozoic fern and pteridosperm fronds. Their systematic affinity is unknown. A discussion is presented of the genera A diantites, Pseudadiantites, Aneimites , Palaeopteridium , and Triphyllopteris , and the problematic nature of the history of Adian…

Assignment of1H and13C NMR data for (−)-methyl thyrsiflorin A and some scopadulan precursors

2001

The 1H and 13C NMR spectral analysis of synthetic (−)-methylthyrsiflorin A and 10 scopadulan precursors is reported. Resonance assignments were based on one- and two-dimensional NMR techniques, which included 1H, 13C, DEPT and HMQC and also 1D NOE difference spectroscopy. Copyright © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Theory of double beta decay

2005

Basic features of the two-neutrino double beta ( 2 ν β β ) decay and neutrinoless double beta ( 0 ν β β ) decay are discussed. A short review of the most important nuclear models, used to describe the ββ decay, is given. A deeper survey of the nuclear matrix elements, related to the above-mentioned decay modes, is performed using the proton-neutron quasiparticle random-phase approximation (pnQRPA). In particular, the extraction of a proper value of the proton-neutron particle-particle interaction parameter in this theory is addressed. The relevance of different multipoles in the multipole decomposition of the 0 ν β β matrix element is also discussed in the pnQRPA framework.

A whey-predominant formula induces fecal microbiota similar to that found in breast-fed infants

2007

To compare the effects of a whey-predominant infant formula and breast milk on the gut microbiota, growth, and tolerance of infants, we conducted an open, prospective, parallel-group study in healthy newborn infants. A total of 60 infants were enrolled, and 55 completed the study. Of the 55 infants, 21 were breast-fed and 34 were fed a whey-predominant study formula that had low phosphate concentration (31 mg/100 kcal), was reduced in protein (1.8 g/100 kcal or 0.43 g/kJ), had lactose as the sole carbohydrate source, and had an amino acid profile and buffering capacity similar to that of human milk. At 30 and 60 days of age, fecal bacterial counts were determined using fluorescence in situ …

Early sowing can boost grain production by reducing weed infestation in organic no‐till wheat

2022

Conservative tillage techniques have several agro-ecological benefits for organic farming. The application of these techniques, however, can create quite a few challenges due to the increased weed competition. Here, we report the results of an organic field experiment in which the responses of wheat and weeds to no tillage (NT) were evaluated compared with conventional tillage (CT). We also tested the hypothesis that, under NT, moving up the sowing date, compared with using the ordinary sowing date for the study area, can result in increased competitiveness of the crop against weeds. Two wheat genotypes, a modern variety and an ancient landrace, were tested.Substantial reductions in grain y…
