Hyper-concentrated flows: experimental investigation of effect of inflow parameters and sediment concentration on propagation process

2017

Debris-flows runout estimations are of crucial importance to delineate the potentially hazardous areas and to make reliable assessment of the level of risk of urban areas. Especially in recent years, several researches have been conducted in order to define predicitive models. But, existing runout estimation methods need input parameters that can be difficult to estimate. Recent experimental researches have also allowed the assessment of the physics of the debris flows. But, the major part of the experimental studies analyze the basic kinematic conditions which determine the phenomenon evolution. Experimental program has been recently conducted at the Hydraulic laboratory of the Department …

Repatriation of Debt in the Euro Crisis: Evidence for the Secondary Market Theory

2013

The Euro Crisis has marked a sharp inversion in the process of the European financial integration and, more specifically, a repatriation of countries' debt from foreign to domestic investors. Yet the drivers of the financial fragmentation remain unclear. This paper investigates the empirical patterns in light of competing theories of cross-border portfolio allocation. Three main empirical regularities stand out: i) the repatriation of debt occurred primarily in crisis countries; ii) the repatriation affected mainly public debt; iii) the public debt of crisis countries was reallocated to politically influential countries within the Euro Area. Standard theories of portfolio allocation and hom…

Public debt, money and consumer prices: a vector error correction model for Germany

2015

In the paper, the authors analyse the interaction between public debt and inflation including the mutual impulse response. The European sovereign debt crisis brought once again a focus onto the consequences of government debt in combination with an expansionary monetary policy for the development of consumer prices. Public deficits can lead to higher inflation rates if the money supply is expansionary. The high level of national debt, not only in the Euro-crisis countries, and the strong increase in the total assets of the European Central Bank, as a result of the unconventional monetary policy, have caused fears of inflating government debt. The transmission from public debt to inflation t…

The MAST-FV/FE scheme for the simulation of thermohaline processes in variable density saturated porous media

2009

A novel methodology for the simulation of 2D thermohaline double diffusive processes, driven by heterogeneous temperature and concentration fields in variable-density satu- rated porous media, is presented. The stream function is used to describe the flow field and it is defined in terms of mass flux. The partial differential equations governing system is given by the mass conservation equation of the fluid phase written in terms of the mass- based stream function, as well as by the advection–diffusion transport equations of the contaminant concentration and of the heat. The unknown variables are the stream func- tion, the contaminant concentration and the temperature. The governing equatio…

Stochastic differential equations with coefficients in Sobolev spaces

2010

We consider It\^o SDE $\d X_t=\sum_{j=1}^m A_j(X_t) \d w_t^j + A_0(X_t) \d t$ on $\R^d$. The diffusion coefficients $A_1,..., A_m$ are supposed to be in the Sobolev space $W_\text{loc}^{1,p} (\R^d)$ with $p>d$, and to have linear growth; for the drift coefficient $A_0$, we consider two cases: (i) $A_0$ is continuous whose distributional divergence $\delta(A_0)$ w.r.t. the Gaussian measure $\gamma_d$ exists, (ii) $A_0$ has the Sobolev regularity $W_\text{loc}^{1,p'}$ for some $p'>1$. Assume $\int_{\R^d} \exp\big[\lambda_0\bigl(|\delta(A_0)| + \sum_{j=1}^m (|\delta(A_j)|^2 +|\nabla A_j|^2)\bigr)\big] \d\gamma_d0$, in the case (i), if the pathwise uniqueness of solutions holds, then the push-f…
