International audience; Using the theory of bifurcation, we provide and find gap soliton dynamics in a nonlinear Klein-Gordon model with anharmonic, cubic, and quartic interactions immersed in a parametrized on-site substrate potential. The case of a deformable substrate potential allows theoretical adaptation of the model to various physical situations. Nonconvex interactions in lattice systems lead to a number of interesting phenomena that cannot be produced with linear coupling alone. Automatic recognition of scanned images of distorted bi-axial fiber bundle arrangements is considered in order to obtain the overall permeability of the formed fiber network. Scanned images are pre-processed with color normalization followed by usage of a threshold to find the pixels belonging to the bundles, the threads keeping the bundles together, and the distinct gaps formed between the bundles. Since the scanned images virtually have a perfect grayscale, the intensity can be treated as a corresponding signal of the image. Partial stability for specific growth rate control biotechnological fed-batch processes

In this paper, the problem of the specific growth rate control in biological reactions in fed-batch mode is dealt with. It is assumed that only part of the state is measurable on-line, namely biomass and volume. Moreover, no estimation of the specific growth rate is used. An unbounded manifold is tracked using a partial state feedback. Then, techniques for partial stability, i.e., only with respect to part of the variables, are used in order to analyze the problem.

In this paper, fluid dynamics simulations have been executed using a CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) commercial code, on a Maserati Biturbo mod. 222 - 1988. At first some surfaces are optimised, choosing the more important ones for the reduction of the resistance, by a manual variation of their geometry, hence a large surface is optimised in an automatic way, by means of an own software, developed in the MatLab environment, returning the optimised surface according to a specific objective function (the resistance in this paper). LPV Model Identification For The Stall And Surge Control of a Jet Engine

Abstract The problem of identifying discrete-time Linear Parameter Varying (LPV) models of non-linear or time-varying systems for gain scheduling control is considered assuming that inputs, outputs and the scheduling parameters are measured, and a form of the functional dependence of the coefficients on the parameters is known. The identification procedure is applied to the controlled model of compressors for jet engines. The model is controlled in order to avoid rotating stall and surge. Aim of the present paper is to identify the LPV model based on the nonlinear model of compressors in order to design a robust gain scheduling predictive controller.

Abstract We focus on the study and implementation of Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) numerical code to deal with non-reflecting boundary conditions, starting from the Perfect Matched Layer (PML) approach. Color vision deficiency (CVD) affects more than 4% of the population and leads to a different visual perception of colors. Though this has been known for decades, colormaps with many colors across the visual spectra are often used to represent data, leading to the potential for misinterpretation or difficulty with interpretation by someone with this deficiency. A High-Resolution Penalization Method for large Mach number Flows in the presence of Obstacles

International audience; A penalization method is applied to model the interaction of large Mach number compressible flows with obstacles. A supplementary term is added to the compressible Navier-Stokes system, seeking to simulate the effect of the Brinkman-penalization technique used in incompressible flow simulations including obstacles. We present a computational study comparing numerical results obtained with this method to theoretical results and to simulations with Fluent software. Our work indicates that this technique can be very promising in applications to complex flows.
