Vegetation altering hydrodynamic conditions of an open channel flow controls the exchanges of sediment, nutrients and contaminants. In this paper the turbulence structure of open-channel flow over a flexible grass vegetation is investigated. Velocity measurements were carried out, in a rectangular flume, using a 2D-ADV (Acoustic Doppler Velocimeter) for different values of stem concentration, water discharge, and bed slope. Abstract Flowmeters with self-averaging Pitot tubes are more and more often applied in practice. Their advantages are practically no additional flow losses, usability in the case of high temperature of fluids and simplicity of fitting. A mathematical model of a self-averaging Pitot tube including the influence of the probe shape, selected constructional features and flow conditions on the quantity of differential pressure gained has been given in this paper. Due to the enormous damages and losses of human lives in the inundated regions, the simulation of the propagation of tsunamis in coastal areas has received an increasing interest of the researchers. We present a 2D depth-integrated, non- hydrostatic shallow waters solver to simulate the propagation of tsunamis, solitary waves and surges in coastal regions. Stationary heat flux profile in turbulent helium II in a semi-infinite cylindrical channel

In this paper we determine a set of solutions for a system of partial dif- ferential equations describing stationary heat flux in a semi-infinite cylindrical channel filled with turbulent superfluid helium. This study uses a continuous model for liquid helium II, derived from Extended Thermodynamics, in which the heat flux q is a fundamental variable. The influence of the vortex line den- sity on the radial distribution of the heat flux is especially discussed.
CFD predictions of turbulent two-phase flow in helical coils

Turbulent two-phase flow in a helical pipe was simulated by means of CFD using the ANSYS-CFX code, based on a finite-volume multi-fluid approach. The focus was on flow patterns and frictional pressure drops; inter-phase heat and mass transfer and heat exchange with the pipe walls were not included and physical properties were assumed constant for each phase. The computational domain included a single, vertical axis, coil turn; the flow was assumed to be fully developed. The Listeria monocytogenes surface protein ActA is an important virulence factor required for listerial intracellular movement by inducing actin polymerization. The only host cell protein known that directly interacts with ActA is the phosphoprotein VASP, which binds to the central proline-rich repeat region of ActA. To identify additional ActA-binding proteins, we applied the yeast two-hybrid system to search for mouse proteins that interact with ActA. A mouse cDNA library was screened for ActA-interacting proteins (AIPs) using ActA from strain L. monocytogenes EGD as bait. Determination of 14-3-3 protein levels in cerebrospinal fluid from Creutzfeldt-Jakob patients by a highly sensitive capture assay.

The level of 14-3-3gamma protein was determined in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) from patients with Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) and non-CJD patients applying a new and fast microplate assay (14-3-3 protein capture assay), based on the binding to a peptide comprising a phosphorylated recognition motif of 14-3-3 protein. The levels of the gamma-isoform of 14-3-3 protein in CSF samples from CJD patients (n=41) were significantly higher than those observed in patients with non-CJD dementias (n=36) suggesting that this capture assay is a reliable method in the diagnosis of CJD.
