Medicago arborea is one of the most potentially valuable fodder shrubs in a Mediterranean environment because of its high preference by small ruminants and its nutritive value. Edible biomass production is affected by agronomic and environmental factors. Graphitic carbon nitride assisted partial photocatalytic oxidation of 5-hydroxymethyl-2-furfural (HMF) in aqueous medium was investigated. Different carbon nitride precursors were considered, being melamine the one yielding the most efficient photocatalyst. The obtained 30% selectivity of HMF oxidation to 2,5-furandicarboxaldehyde (FDC) is higher than those reported up to now. A further thermal exfoliation of the g-C3N4 samples showed under artificial light irradiation both an enhanced photocatalytic activity in conversion of HMF, and selectivity (ca. 42–45%) to FDC. Purpose To report for the first time a clinical case of suprachoroidal bleeding after XEN45 gel implantation. Observations A 84-year old female patient with pseudoexfoliation glaucoma with intraocular pressure (IOP) (20 mm Hg) above target despite maximal IOP-lowering therapy was scheduled for XEN45 gel implantation. The XEN45 gel implantation went without complications and was properly placed in the anterior chamber and beneath the conjunctiva. g-C3N4 powders were treated by means of the microwave technique in three different aqueous and organic media (HNO3, NaOH and N,N-dimethylformamide). All powders were analyzed by XRD reveling that g-C3N4 maintains its structure. The morphology of the samples was analyzed with scanning electron microscopy, where the micrographs reveals that the modifcation occurs on the surface of the g-C3N4. The photocatalytic activity of the samples was evaluated in the degradation of ciprofoxacin, hydrogen production and for the selective partial oxidation of 4-methoxybenzylalcohol (4-MBA) to its aldehyde. Abstract Foliations are normally thought to develop approximately parallel to the XY-plane of the finite strain ellipsoid, i.e., perpendicular to the main shortening direction. We present a new type of schistosity named “flame foliation” that forms orthogonal to the main extension direction, approximately parallel to the YZ-plane of finite strain. Flame foliation consists of anastomosing biotite-rich selvedges overprinting S1 in pelitic layers of metaturbitites in NW Namibia. The biotite crystals in the selvedges are peculiar because they are oriented oblique or orthogonal to the flame foliation itself and parallel to the previous S1 cleavage, a feature no other foliation shows. Let M be a compact Riemannian manifold of dimension n, and let ℱ be a smooth foliation on M. A topological obstruction is obtained, similar to results of R. Bott and J. Pasternack, to the existence of a metric on M for which ℱ is totally geodesic. In this case, necessarily that portion of the Pontryagin algebra of the subbundle ℱ must vanish in degree n if ℱ is odd-dimensional. Using the same methods simple proofs of the theorems of Bott and Pasternack are given.
Fabric attractors in general triclinic flow systems and their application to high strain shear zones: A dynamical system approach

High strain zones may deform by flow with a triclinic symmetry. This paper describes triclinic flow in a reference frame where Instantaneous Stretching Axes (ISA) are fixed. The operation of triclinic flow is described in two ways: first in terms of flow and the nature of flow eigenvectors and in the second part of the paper in terms of finite strain. In monoclinic flow, at least one of the eigenvectors of the flow coincides with one of the ISA and one or two of the eigenvectors act as attractors of foliation or lineation elements.
