477 Injury risk in finnish youth floorball: a one-year prospective follow-up study

2016

Background Floorball is a popular team sport in Finland. Previous studies have revealed that injuries are a significant problem in adult floorball. However, epidemiological studies of injuries in youth floorball are lacking. The aim of this study was to investigate the incidence, type, and severity of injuries in young floorball players. Methods One-hundred-fifty-six female (n = 57) and male players (n = 99) (mean age 17.1 ± 1.6 years) from nine floorball teams participated in the study. Injury data as well as practice and game exposures were collected over the 12-months period (from May 2013 to April 2014). An injury was defined as having occurred in an organised floorball practice or game…

Follow-up after urinary diversion.

1999

With modern forms of urinary diversion being widely employed during recent years, the awareness of possible complications and appropriate follow-up strategies gains rising importance and current follow-up strategies are reviewed herewith. Follow-up investigations after urinary diversion have to address possible surgical complications, metabolic changes as well as the risk of secondary malignancies in the incorporated bowel segments. The most important and possible deleterious surgical complication is upper tract dilation and obstruction following ureteroenteric anastomotic stenosis and occurs in 2–30% depending on the surgical technique and evaluated series. The most appropriate follow-up s…

Idiopathische makuläre Teleangiektasie (IMT) – Verlaufsbeobachtung mit und ohne Laserphotokoagulation

2010

Purpose The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of laser photocoagulation for idiopathic macular telangiectasia (IMT) by using the revised and simplified classification of Yannuzzi 2006. Patients and methods The Yannuzzi classification was used for a retrospective analysis of the medical records of all patients with idiopathic macular telangiectasia as diagnosed consecutively in the University Eye Clinic of Mainz in the time period from 1 / 02 to 12 / 06. Laser treatment was indicated only in those eyes which presented with a visual acuity below 10 / 20 (follow-up interval in median 37 months, minimum 13 months). Results 12 patients with unilateral macular telangiectasia (IM…

Fundamental movement skills and physical fitness as predictors of physical activity: A 6-year follow-up study

2015

The purpose of this study was to examine the extent to which fundamental movement skills and physical fitness scores assessed in early adolescence predict self-reported physical activity assessed 6 years later. The sample comprised 333 (200 girls, 133 boys; M age = 12.41) students. The effects of previous physical activity, sex, and body mass index (BMI) were controlled in the main analyses. Adolescents’ fundamental movement skills, physical fitness, self-report physical activity, and BMI were collected at baseline, and their self-report energy expenditure (metabolic equivalents: METs) and intensity of physical activity were collected using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire …

Art und Prognose des lokoregionären Rezidivs beim Rektumkarzinom: Eine Nachsorgestudie

2008

The recurrence rate after 438 curative operations for rectal carcinoma was 44.1% (193 cases). It was independent of age and sex, but correlated closely with tumour stage. Tumours in an early stage recurred rarely and late. The success of a second operation was influenced by the type of local-regional recurrence. Only three of 34 presacral recurrences were again treated surgically with cure as the aim, compared with seven of 17 anastomosis recurrences, five of eight perineal recurrences, four of six recurrences after local dissection, and all colostomy recurrences, vaginal recurrences and metachronic second tumours. The further course demonstrated that about three quarters of patients who ha…
