Income Tax Evasion in a Unionised Labour Market

Labour market outcomes can depend on tax evasion since the returns from working are affected by the amount of taxes paid. In this paper, unionised workers are assumed to select the income which they declare. The rational trade union takes this decision into account. It is shown that the employment effects of a linear income tax are not altered qualitatively by tax evasion if the fine for evasion is a function only of the evaded tax. Moreover, the consequences of changes in the tax enforcement system are determined by the ability to choose evasion activities optimally. The existence of unrestricted tax evasion opportunities lowers wages.
Determinants of inter-regional migration in the Baltic countries

We show that Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania despite small geographical size feature considerable and persistent regional disparities. Registered migration rates have declined dramatically since the last years of Soviet era, yet they are high by international standards. Evidence from regional inflows and outflows in Latvia and from Estonian labour force survey is used to show that regional unemployment and especially wage differentials, as well as demographic factors, have a significant impact both on gross and net migration flows. The public–private sector wage gap in Latvia

This study investigates the public-private sector wage gap in Latvia using microdata from the labour force survey. The severity of public sector wage cuts employed as a response to the economic crisis and subsequent recovery provides a test bed to analyse whether and how the public-private sector wage gap has adjusted after consolidation-driven wage cuts. Findings reveal that the observed wage gap is slightly in favour of the public sector; however, once differences in individual characteristics and selection effects are considered, results point to a private sector wage premium. Based on the concept of labour market resilience, this paper is aimed to determine the combination of initial conditions behind resilient and non-resilient labour markets after the financial crisis in 2008 in Europe. The purpose of this paper is to analyse the problems of Latvian labour market and its possible development. An econometric model for labour force demand and supply forecasting is elaborated and it comprises 120 professions, 37 aggregated groups of professions and covers time period 2007–2030. Returns to Education in the Baltic Countries

Labour Force Survey (2000) data are used to estimate returns to education in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Results are compared with evidence from other countries. We also discuss gender, ethnic, and urban-rural gaps in payoff to education.
A quantitative investigation on the thermoelastic effect of CFRP laminates

The thermoelastic effect on CFRP laminates with various lay-ups is investigated. A thick low crimp unidirectional fabric reinforcement is adopted. The measured thermoelastic signal is compared with predictions from two analytical models based on the meso-mechanical bulk properties of the lamina and on assuming a strain witness behaviour of the surface resin rich layer.

A family of four mononuclear DyIII β-diketonate complexes with formulas [Dy(tmhd)3 (Br2 -bpy) (1), [Dy(tmhd)3 (Br-bpy)] (2), [Dy(tmhd)3 (dppz)] (3), and [Dy(tmhd)3 (mcdpq)] (4) (tmhd=2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-3,5-heptanedione, Br2 -bpy=5,5'-dibromo-2,2'-bipyridine, Br-bpy=5-bromo-2,2'-bipyridine, dppz=dipyrido [3,2-a:2',3'-c]phenazine, mcdpq=2-methoxyl-3-cyanodipyrido[3,2-f:2,3'-h]quinoxaline) were prepared by modifying the capping N-donor coligands.
