Linear assembly of lead bromide-based nanoparticles inside lead(ii) polymers prepared by mixing the precursors of both the nanoparticle and the polym…
2019
Mixing precursors of lead(ii) polymers with those of lead bromide-based nanoparticles (CH3NH3PbBr3 perovskites or PbBr2), at room temperature and in the presence of cyclohexanemethylammonium bromide, generated colloidal nanocomposites which, when deposited on a hydrophobic surface led to long, one-dimensional, ordered and well-defined architectures. ispartof: CHEMICAL COMMUNICATIONS vol:55 issue:20 pages:2968-2971 ispartof: location:England status: published
Forces between colloidal particles in aqueous solutions containing monovalent and multivalent ions
2017
The present article provides an overview of the recent progress in the direct force measurements between individual pairs of colloidal particles in aqueous salt solutions. Results obtained by two different techniques are being highlighted, namely with the atomic force microscope (AFM) and optical tweezers. One finds that the classical theory of Derjaguin, Landau, Verwey, and Overbeek (DLVO) represents an accurate description of the force profiles even in the presence of multivalent ions, typically down to distances of few nanometers. However, the corresponding Hamaker constants and diffuse layer potentials must be extracted from the force profiles. At low salt concentrations, double layer f…
A NEW PROGRESSIVE DESIGN METHODOLOGY FOR COMPLEX SHEET METAL STAMPING OPERATIONS: COUPLING SPATIALLY DIFFERENTIATED RESTRAINING FORCES APPROACH AND M…
2010
The growing interest in sheet metal stamping processes, particularly in the automotive industry has led to three main issues in this field:*request of very complex shapes; *growing interest in springback control; *solution of multi-objective problems. These issues make a sheet metal stamping processes design very difficult and proper design methodologies to reduce times and costs are highly required. In this paper, a computer aided approach aiming to satisfy the mentioned issues is proposed. In particular, a progressive design approach based on the integration between numerical simulations, Response Surface Methodology (RSM) and Pareto optimal solutions search techniques was applied in orde…
Social Networks and Labour–Education Market System
2015
Two facts about human beings are widely accepted: they are social creatures and they behave in a bounded rational way. In particular, this results in substantial use of social networks in individual decision-making. Before dealing with the issues of modelling individual behaviour in the labour–education market system, we have to recall some empirical facts known from the literature about this behaviour. This is exactly what this chapter provides.
Theory and Simulations of Friction between Flat Surfaces Lubricated by Submonolayers
2001
Recent simulations suggest that wearless friction between two solid surfaces can only be obtained if the two surfaces are commensurate or if they are lubricated by a film. Some simple theoretical arguments are given why the presence of a submonolayer film between two solids leads to friction. Possible implications of the symmetry of the confining walls on the tribological properties of the system are then investigated in the presence of a thin film by means of molecular dynamics simulation. Erratic stick-slip motion of the incommensurate system and oscillating friction forces for the commensurate system in the sliding regime are observed.
Misja Baltic Air Policing jako sprawdzian sojuszniczej odpowiedzialności NATO w XXI wieku
2016
Dynamics of non-local systems handled by fractional calculus
2007
Mechanical vibrations of non-local systems with long-range, cohesive, interactions between material particles have been studied in this paper by means of fractional calculus. Long-range cohesive forces between material particles have been included in equilibrium equations assuming interaction distance decay with order α . This approach yields as limiting case a partial fractional differential equation of order α involving space-time variables. It has been shown that the proposed model may be obtained by a discrete, mass-spring model that includes non-local interactions by non-adjacent particles and the mechanical vibrations of the particles have been obtained by an approximation fractional …
How do normalization schemes affect net spillovers? A replication of the Diebold and Yilmaz (2012) study
2019
Abstract This paper replicates the Diebold and Yilmaz (2012) study on the connectedness of the commodity market and three other financial markets: the stock market, the bond market, and the FX market, based on the Generalized Forecast Error Variance Decomposition, GEFVD. We show that the net spillover indices (of directional connectedness), used to assess the net contribution of one market to overall risk in the system, are sensitive to the normalization scheme applied to the GEFVD. We show that, considering data generating processes characterized by different degrees of persistence and covariance, a scalar-based normalization of the Generalized Forecast Error Variance Decomposition is pref…
Neutral-current supernova-neutrino cross sections for 204,206,208Pb calculated by Skyrme quasiparticle random-phase approximation
2019
The present work constitutes a detailed study of neutral-current (NC) supernova-neutrino scattering off the stable even-even lead isotopes 204,206,208Pb. This is a continuation of our previous work [Almosly et al., Phys. Rev. C. 94, 044614 (2016)] where we investigated charged-current processes on the same nuclei. As in the previous work, we have adopted the quasiparticle random-phase approximation (QRPA) as the theory framework and use three different Skyrme interactions to build the involved nuclear wave functions. We test the Skyrme forces by computing the location of the lowest-order isovector spin-multipole giant resonances and comparing with earlier calculations. We have computed the …
Constraining interactions mediated by axion-like particles with ultracold neutrons
2015
We report a new limit on a possible short range spin-dependent interaction from the precise measurement of the ratio of Larmor precession frequencies of stored ultracold neutrons and Hg199 atoms confined in the same volume. The measurement was performed in a ~1μT vertical magnetic holding field with the apparatus searching for a permanent electric dipole moment of the neutron at the Paul Scherrer Institute. A possible coupling between freely precessing polarized neutron spins and unpolarized nucleons of the wall material can be investigated by searching for a tiny change of the precession frequencies of neutron and mercury spins. Such a frequency change can be interpreted as a consequence o…
