: Entering University in Taiwan: the Reform
2005
A reform of further education is presently at work in Taiwan, which concerns university access: the programme for diversified admissions in university. In a first place, the author analyses the implementation of this reform and gives a historical light to it. He briefly presents the former programme for admission, the main problems met by students and the repercussions for secondary education. The author then turns towards the problems raised by the Programme for Diversified Admission in University, such as fairness and credibility. He eventually suggests ameliorations to the Programme, as taking all-year results in secondary schools into account, and modifying the way universities are fund…

Avian Clock gene polymorphism: evidence for a latitudinal cline in allele frequencies
2007
In comparison with most animal behaviours, circadian rhythms have a well-characterized molecular genetic basis. Detailed studies of circadian clock genes in 'model' organisms provide a foundation for interpreting the functional and evolutionary significance of polymorphic circadian clock genes found within free-living animal populations. Here, we describe allelic variation in a region of the avian Clock orthologue which encodes a functionally significant polyglutamine repeat (ClkpolyQcds), within free-living populations of two passerine birds, the migratory bluethroat (Luscinia svecica) and the predominantly nonmigratory blue tit (Cyanistes caeruleus). Multiple ClkpolyQcds alleles were foun…
Fayans functional for deformed nuclei. Uranium region
2016
Fayans energy density functional (EDF) FaNDF^0 has been applied to the nuclei around uranium region. Ground state characteristics of the Th, U and Pu isotopic chains, up to the two-neutron drip line, are found and compared with predictions from several Skyrme EDFs. The two-neutron drip line is found for FaNDF^0, SLy4 and SkM^* EDFs for a set of elements with even proton number, from Pb up to Fm.
Analysis of Predisposing Factors for Rapid Dental Calculus Formation.
2020
Background: Calculus accumulation varies widely between individuals. Dental calculus has been associated with the principal periodontal diseases. The aim of this study was to analyze individual characteristics, and salivary and microbiological parameters among patients considered to be rapid calculus formers and patients who form calculus slowly. Methods: Individual characteristics were recorded in a sample of 74 patients (age, sex, smoking, periodontal diagnosis, and dental crowding), as well as salivary parameters (unstimulated saliva flow, pH, and biochemical analysis of saliva) and microbiological parameters (by means of semi-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) analysis). Resul…
Preservation of the remains and contemporary grafts in the former Mother Church of Santa Margherita di Belice in Sicily: ethics of restoration, conse…
2015
Knowledge exchange through science diplomacy to assist disaster risk reduction
2021
Abstract This paper analyses science diplomacy efforts to reduce disaster risks and proposes establishing national knowledge exchange centers (KECs) to help individual states adhere to their Sendai Framework goals. KECs are considered to be interconnected globally and work together to promote resilience efforts by facilitating sharing of information and strategies in risk monitoring, assessment, and ultimately reduction across the globe. KECs can provide high-quality scientific evidence for informed decisionmaking along with a component related to disaster science media to ensure that appropriate knowledge reaches a variety of people who need it in different forms tailored for them. KECs ca…
