Since the publication of Julius Baron’s book about the condictiones in 1881, the condictio of the Roman formulary procedure is considered as an ‘abstract’ action. In Baron’s opinion this peculiar nature was due to the fact that its formula never mentioned – and could not mention – the basis of the claim neither in its intentio, nor in a demonstratio, nor in a praescriptio. By considering the two formulae of condictio certae pecuniae recorded in TPSulp. 31, this paper focuses on the concept of causa actionis in order to call into question the gospel of the ‘abstractness’ of the formular condictio. Il contributo ridiscute criticamente, sulla base dei dati desumibili dalle fonti, i vari tentativi di ricostruzione delle formule delle azioni divisorie sinora proposti. Nel concentrarsi in particolare sulla impossibilità di accettare la proposta ricostruttiva di Lenel, si nega che che la 'demonstratio' con cui si apriva il programma di giudizio potesse risolversi nell'enunciazione, in un costrutto assertorio introdotto da 'quod', della richiesta di un giudice, dovendo invece rinviare, come le altre 'demonstrationes' a noi note, alla 'causa actionis'.
Coupled fixed point results in cone metric spaces for -compatible mappings

Abstract In this paper, we introduce the concepts of -compatible mappings, b-coupled coincidence point and b-common coupled fixed point for mappings F, G : X × X → X, where (X, d) is a cone metric space. We establish b-coupled coincidence and b-common coupled fixed point theorems in such spaces. The presented theorems generalize and extend several well-known comparable results in the literature, in particular the recent results of Abbas et al. [Appl. Math. Comput. 217, 195-202 (2010)]. Ferritin synthesis by Caco-2 cells as an indicator of iron bioavailability: Application to milk-based infant formulas

The bioavailability of iron from milk-based infant formulas was estimated by an in vitro system including enzymatic digestion, iron uptake by Caco-2 cells and ferritin determination via an enzymoimmunoassay (ELISA). Positive correlations (p < 0.01) were found between the Fe(II) added to Caco-2 cells and ferritin synthesis and between the amount of dialyzed iron added to the cell culture and ferritin synthesis. The comparison of the bioavailability of iron from different milk-based formulas showed that adapted formulas having the same composition but differing in the iron salts added yielded similar ferritin levels. Effect of lactoferrin addition on the dialysability of iron from infant formulas

A possible enhancing effect of lactoferrin (Lf) on iron absorption by breast-fed infants has been suggested, however the available results failed to confirm this hypothesis. Nevertheless, Lf could be useful in protecting the lipid fraction of infant formulas against oxidation. Concerning the possibility of adding Lf to infant formulas with this aim, we considered it necessary to evaluate the effect of this addition on iron dialysability, which was used as a parameter indicator of bioavailability. A branch-and-cut algorithm for the Team Orienteering Problem

The Team Orienteering Problem aims at maximizing the total amount of profit collected by a fleet of vehicles while not exceeding a predefined travel time limit on each vehicle. In the last years, several exact methods based on different mathematical formulations were proposed. In this paper, we present a new two-index formulation with a polynomial number of variables and constraints. This compact formulation, reinforced by connectivity constraints, was solved by means of a branch-and-cut algorithm. The total number of instances solved to optimality is 327 of 387 benchmark instances, 26 more than any previous method. Moreover, 24 not previously solved instances were closed to optimality.
