2020

From the translation of Marianela (1880), the Italian reception of the works of Benito Pérez Galdós through translations does not present a very satisfactory situation, but rather uneven, especially if we take into account the production of contemporary translations to the Canarian writer or in the decades immediately after his disappearance, with some emblematic cases of manipulation with a very partial and censored translation such as that of Fortunata e Giacinta (1926), framed in the Fascist Ventennio, although it was the first translation into a foreign language of the Galdosian masterpiece. This study aims to recover and organize the panorama of translations into Italian of Galdós's na…

Sequential Intensification of Metformin Treatment in Type 2 Diabetes With Liraglutide Followed by Randomized Addition of Basal Insulin Prompted by A1…

2012

OBJECTIVE We evaluated the addition of liraglutide to metformin in type 2 diabetes followed by intensification with basal insulin (detemir) if glycated hemoglobin (A1C) ≥7%. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS In 988 participants from North America and Europe uncontrolled on metformin ± sulfonylurea, sulfonylurea was discontinued and liraglutide 1.8 mg/day added for 12 weeks (run-in). Subsequently, those with A1C ≥7% were randomized 1:1 to 26 weeks’ open-label addition of insulin detemir to metformin + liraglutide (n = 162) or continuation without insulin detemir (n = 161). Patients achieving A1C <7% continued unchanged treatment (observational arm). The primary end point was A1C change bet…

Impact on Glucose Homeostasis: Is Food Biofortified with Molybdenum a Workable Solution? A Two-Arm Study

2022

Diabetes is expected to increase up to 700 million people worldwide with type 2 diabetes being the most frequent. The use of nutritional interventions is one of the most natural approaches for managing the disease. Minerals are of paramount importance in order to preserve and obtain good health and among them molybdenum is an essential component. There are no studies about the consumption of biofortified food with molybdenum on glucose homeostasis but recent studies in humans suggest that molybdenum could exert hypoglycemic effects. The present study aims to assess if consumption of lettuce biofortified with molybdenum influences glucose homeostasis and whether the effects would be due to c…

Stones, Bones, and Hillfort: Radiocarbon Dating of Ķivutkalns Bronze-Working Center

2013

The Bronze Age site of ķivutkalns with its massive amount of archaeological artifacts and human remains is considered the largest bronze-working center in Latvia. The site is a unique combination of cemetery and hillfort believed to be built on top of each other. This work presents new radiocarbon dates on human and animal bone collagen that somewhat challenge this interpretation. Based on analyses using a Bayesian modeling framework, the present data suggest overlapping calendar year distributions for the contexts within the 1st millennium BC. The carbon and nitrogen isotopic ratios indicate mainly terrestrial dietary habits of studied individuals and nuclear family remains buried in one o…

2018

The many discoveries made in preventive archaeology have drawn the picture of a highly anthropogenic landscape in Bronze Age France. Timber post buildings are the most common type of dwellings however other types of construction (sills, mudbrick, …) that have lighter foundations and are more susceptible to erosion are considered less common due to the inherent problems of identification. Small dwellings from 25 to 40 m2 with a quadrangular 1 to 3 aisled plan and built to house a nuclear family are the most common,. Other types of buildings differ from this standardised plan such as the long rectangular dwellings in Alsace dating to the Early Bronze Age (type Eching) or the Early Bronze Age …
