Computed Tomography in Brain Tumors

1981

Craniocerebral injury and brain tumor are the two most important indications for CT studies. There is unanimous agreement that computed tomography is unequalled in its diagnostic accuracy in demonstration of intracranial tumors. Our own experience is based on observations in 3,750 patients with brain tumors or cerebral metastases who were studied in the period from December 1974 to March 1980 (Table 1). Initial CT studies demonstrated the intracranial tumor or tumors in 3,589 cases (95.7%). Several CT examinations were necessary for diagnosis of a brain tumor in 112 patients (3.0%). Other diagnostic procedures or postmortem studies revealed a brain tumor which had not been demonstrated with…

OC2.01: Examination of the fetal brain by three-dimensional ultrasound: potential for routine neurosonographic studies

2005

Objective: To evaluate the role of three-dimensional (3D) ultrasound in the assessment of the fetal brain and its potential for routine neurosonographic studies. Methods: We studied prospectively 202 consecutive brain fetuses between 16 and 24 weeks’ gestation. A 3D-ultrasound volume of the fetal head was acquired transabdominally. The entire brain anatomy was later analyzed by a sonologist expert in neonatal cranial sonography using the multiplanar images. The quality of the conventional planes obtained (coronal, sagittal and axial, at different levels) and the ability to visualize properly the major brain anatomic structures were evaluated. Results: Acceptable rendered cerebral volumes we…

Effekt der kontralateralen Stimulation auf evozierte otoakustische Emissionen bei akutem Hörverlust*

1994

23 patients with unilateral hearing loss and presence of TEOAE on both ears were examined with regard to the association between contralateral acoustic stimulation and evoked otoacoustic emissions. Contralateral white noise of 40 dB HL, 50 dB HL and 60 dB HL decreases the amplitude of TEOAE both at the ear with and without hearing loss. In comparison with a group of subjects with normal hearing, the decrease in the amplitude of TEOAE was less in the group of patients with hearing loss. Two paradoxical cases were found with an increase in the TEOAE amplitude in the ear with hearing loss during contralateral stimulation. It is assumed that impairment of the efferent synapses on the outer hair…

Neuropathology of Cerebellar Infarction: Its Morphology in Comparison to Selective Postmortem Angiography of Cerebellar Arteries

1994

A typology of infarctions [11, 20] is established for the cerebral hemispheres and has recently also been used, chiefly in neuroradiological diagnosis, for cerebellar infarctions [2–5, 8, 10, 16]. Detailed clinical [12] and microangiographic [7, 9, 13, 15, 17] investigations of the vascularization of the posterior cranial fossa can be referred to in this context. With the aid of selective postmortem angiograms we examined the territories of the superior cerebellar artery (SCA), anterior inferior cerebellar artery (AICA), and posterior inferior cerebellar artery (PICA) on serial sections in the three planes of projection. The sagittal plane offers decisive advantages for assigning cerebellar…

Primary total hip arthroplasty with fourth-generation ceramic bearings: Clinical and survival results with a minimum follow-up of 5 years.

2019

Abstract Objective To evaluate the clinical results and survival of primary hip prosthesis with ceramic delta bearings (C-C) with a minimum follow-up of 5 years. Material and method A total of 205 primary hip arthroplasties performed between 2008 and 2012 were studied. The clinical results, pre-surgical and at 5 years of follow-up were evaluated using the Harris Hip Score (HHS), the Short Form-36 (SF-36), the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC), and the visual analogue scale (VAS). The position of the prosthetic components, periprosthetic osteolysis, loosening of the prosthetic components and ruptures of the ceramic components were studied radiologically. …

Chinese Peoples and the Others : Notes on Contemporary Chinese Nationalism and the May Fourth Movement

2019

The May Fourth Movement (1917-1921) has always been an important part of the official historical narrative of the Chinese Communist Party. Today, the Movement is often celebrated as being closely connected with the emergence of modern Chinese patriotism and nationalism in contemporary China. In the 21st century, Chinese nationalism has voiced more assertive overtones with a tendency to glorify Chinese imperial history. What is more, contemporary Chinese nationalism often adopts a negative attitude towards foreign ideas and thought trends. This article discusses the differences between contemporary Chinese nationalism and the May Fourth Movement nationalism by examining the argumentation str…

Non-crossing quantile regression via monotone B-spline varying coefficients

2019

Quantile regression can be used to obtain a nonparametric estimate of a conditional quantile function. The presence of quantile crossing, however, leads to an invalid distribution of the response and makes it dicult to use the tted model for prediction. In this work, we show that crossing can be alleviated or completely eliminated by explicit modeling of the regression coecients as a function of the percentile values in (0,1). We illustrate the approach via a wellknown dataset by emphasizing dierences with respect to the competitors.

Soborowe nauczanie o sztuce

2021

Ostatecznie można odtworzyć pełną naukę soborów odnośnie do wykształcenia i formacji artystów (ikonografów), opieki duchowieństwa nad artystami i sztuką kościelną, oraz t…
