Type V collagen regulates the expression of apoptotic and stress response genes by breast cancer cells.

2004

Type V collagen is a "minor" component of normal human breast stroma, which is subjected to over-deposition in cases of ductal infiltrating carcinoma (DIC). We reported that, if used as a culture substrate for the DIC cell line 8701-BC, it exhibited poorly-adhesive properties and restrained the proliferative and motile behavior of the cell subpopulation able to attach onto it. Moreover, this collagen species was able to trigger DNA fragmentation and impair survival of 8701-BC cells. In this study, we have extended our investigation with the aim to obtain further evidence that the death induced by type V collagen was of the apoptotic type by (i) microscopic detection and quantitation of Apop…

Blending Collaborative Governance and Dynamic Performance Management to Foster Policy Coordination in Renewable Energy Supply Chains

2020

As the use of renewable energy is growing worldwide, the wind industry is being endorsed as a promising source for clean energy supply. In this context, the strategic management of the supply chain is fundamental to pursue a steady expansion of renewable energy. However, the fragmentation between energy policy design and implementation has been considered as a major cause threatening the effectiveness in managing the supply chain. This problem has been provoked mainly by an unsynchronized and uncoordinated decision-making process that involves public and private institutions. This chapter proposes the adoption of a dynamic performance management approach for enhancing a collaborative govern…

How to support energy policy coordination? Findings from the Brazilian wind industry

2019

Abstract Despite a growing sense of urgency, the deployment of clean technologies has been affected by fragmentation of energy policy design and implementation. In some case, wicked policy issues around renewable energy infrastructure have delayed or even halted the uptake of renewables. To find possible answer to consistent policy design that involves public/private institutions of the electricity sector, the authors propose the adoption of a dynamic performance management approach to support the energy policy coordination.

Diffusion of single molecular and macromolecular probes during the free radical bulk polymerization of MMA : towards a better understanding of the Tr…

2016

Free radical bulk polymerizations exhibit complex kinetics due to the viscosity increase during the polymerization process. Especially the termination rate constant can be strongly influenced by the mobility of polymer chains in the polymerization mixture. As a consequence an autoacceleration period, the so-called Trommsdorff effect, can be observed often. In order to investigate this behaviour on a nanoscopic scale, we directly visualized the mobility of molecules and macromolecules in polymerizing MMA solutions using a combination of highly sensitive fluorescence correlation spectroscopy and widefield fluorescence microscopy. For this purpose, rather monodisperse PMMA chains were synthesi…

Bioreducible Poly-l-Lysine-Poly[HPMA] Block Copolymers Obtained by RAFT-Polymerization as Efficient Polyplex-Transfection Reagents

2015

Polylysine-b-p[HPMA] block copolymers containing a redox-responsive disulfide bond between both blocks are synthesized by RAFT polymerization of pentafluorphenyl-methacrylate with a macro-CTA from Nϵ-benzyloxycarbonyl (Cbz) protected polylysine (synthesized by NCA polymerization). This polylysine-b-p[PFMA] precursor block copolymer is converted to polylysine(Cbz)-b-p[HPMA] by postpolymerization modification with 2-hydroxypropylamine. After removal of the Cbz protecting group, cationic polylysine-b-p[HPMA] copolymers with a biosplittable disulfide moiety became available, which can be used as polymeric transfection vectors. These disulfide linked polylysine-S-S-b-p[HPMA] block copolymers sho…

New hyaluronic acid based brush copolymers synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization.

2013

Abstract In this work, an efficient method for the synthesis of hyaluronic acid based brush copolymers using atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) has been reported. At first, two different hyaluronic acid (HA) based macroinitiators have been prepared and then they have been used for the polymerization via ATRP of hydrophilic or hydrophobic molecules carrying vinyl portions. In particular, by linking 2-bromo-2-methylpropionic acid (BMP) to the primary hydroxyl groups of tetrabutyl ammonium salt of HA (HA–TBA) or to amino groups of the ethylenediamino derivative of HA–TBA (HA–TBA–EDA), two macroinitiators (HA–TBA–BMP and HA–TBA–EDA–BMP) have been obtained. Then they have been used for …
