Fusion-fission and quasifission of superheavy systems with Z=110-116 formed in Ca 48 -induced reactions

2014

Background: In heavy-ion-induced reactions the mechanism leading to the formation of the compound nucleus and the role of quasifission is still not clear. Purpose: Investigation of the quasifission process of superheavy composite systems with Z = 110-116 and comparison with properties of fusion-fission and quasifission of lighter composite systems. Method: Mass and energy distributions of fissionlike fragments formed in the reactions 48Ca +232 Th, 238U, 244Pu, and 248Cm at energies near the Coulomb barrier have been measured using the double-arm time-of-flight spectrometer CORSET at the U-400 cyclotron of the FLNR JINR. Results: The most probable fragment masses as well as total kinetic ene…

La caída de las cajas de ahorros españolas. Cuestión de rentabilidad, tamaño y estructura de propiedad=The Fall of Spanish Savings Banks. Question of…

2012

By Way of Another Editorial on Fusions in the Digital and Public Humanities

2020

This second issue of magazén closes the inaugural volume 2020 and thematically follows high on the heels of the first one, as they are both connected to the topic of ‘fusions’, a term which in our intentions functions as a picklock to investigate recent developments in the wider field of digital and public humanities.

The adsorption of water vapor on super absorbent product at low temperatures and low mass.

2006

The adsorption isotherms of water vapor on super absorbent product have the same form of type III isotherm at ambient temperature with the hysteresis phenomena. For temperatures lower than ambient, the isotherms become deformed because of the chains effect. The polymer is characterized by a multilayer adsorption, which occurs before a full-course is complete. During adsorption reactions, the polymer undergoes rearrangement polymeric network, which results from a cooperative diffusion of the water molecules and from a chain spacing followed by an expansion of the polymeric network. Three types of water molecules adsorbed on polymer were identified: strongly dependent water, adsorbed water, a…

Color induction via non-opponent lateral interactions in the human retina

1992

Retinal connections causing colors in Benham's top (pattern induced flicker colors, PIFCs) are investigated by psychophysical experiments. PIFCs are still seen when stimuli to different cones are demodulated selectively, indicating the involvement of non-opponent channels. PIFCs also occur on retinal areas next to those affected by modulated stimuli; further, both monochromat and dark-adapted trichromats perceive PIFCs which are achromatic. These additional findings point to horizontal cells as neuronal mediators of modulated excitation leading to PIFCs. The unspecifity of the postulated connection with respect to cone types agrees with anatomic findings of Boycott, B. B., Hopkins, J. M. an…

Temporal resolution and temporal transfer properties: gabaergic and cholinergic mechanisms.

2007

Temporal resolution is a basic property of the visual system and critically depends upon retinal temporal coding properties which are also of importance for directional coding. Whether the temporal coding properties for directional coding derive form inherent properties or critically depend upon the temporal coding mechanisms is unclear. Here, the influence of acetylcholine and GABA upon photopic temporal coding was investigated in goldfish, using flicker stimuli, in a behavioral and an electrophysiological (ERG) approach. The goldfish temporal resolution ability decreased from more than 90% correct choices at 20 Hz flicker frequency to about 65% at 45 Hz flicker frequency with a flicker fu…

Multispectral analysis and cone signal modelling of pseudoisochromatic test plates

2013

The aim of the study is to determine the consistency of the desired colour reproduction of the stimuli using calibrated printing technology available to anyone (EpsonStylus Pro 7800 printer was). 24 colour vision assessment plates created in the University of Latvia were analysed right after their fabrication on august 2012 and after intense use for 7 months (colour vision screening on 700 people). Multispectral imagery results indicate that the alignment of the samples after seven months of use has maintained on the CIExy confusion lines of deutan deficiency type, but the shift towards achromatic area in the diagram indicate decrease in the total colour difference (ΔE*ab) of test backgroun…

100 Years of Benham's Top in Colour Science

1995

For 100 years Benham's top has been a popular device demonstrating pattern-induced flicker colours (PIFCs). Results of early and recent investigations on PIFCs are reported and show that the phenomenon originates in phase-sensitive lateral interactions of modulated neural activity in the retina followed by additional spatial interactions in the visual cortex behind the locus of binocular fusion. Colour matches with normal colour stimuli indicate that S/(M + L) opponent neurons are involved. Dichromats do not find matching stimuli for all PIFCs. PIFCs may become useful in medical diagnosis. The phenomenon is interpreted as a side effect of a neural mechanism providing colour constancy under…
