In this study, negatively charged catanionic vesicles/hydrophobically modified hydroxyethylcellulose polymers thermo-responsive hydrogels have been fabricated. Vesicular aggregates were found to act as multifunctional junctions for networking of modified-cellulose water solutions. The contributions of the electrostatic and hydrophobic interactions were evaluated by changing either vesicles composition or the polymer hydrophobic substitution. Thermal-induced size and lamellarity of hydrogel-enclosed vesicles were detected, with further polygonal shape changes induced by cellulose-based polymer addition. Lateral Fusion of Chemical Vapor Deposited N = 5 Armchair Graphene Nanoribbons

Bottom-up synthesis of low-bandgap graphene nanoribbons with various widths is of great importance for their applications in electronic and optoelectronic devices. Here we demonstrate a synthesis of N = 5 armchair graphene nanoribbons (5-AGNRs) and their lateral fusion into wider AGNRs, by a chemical vapor deposition method. The efficient formation of 10- and 15- AGNRs is revealed by a combination of different spectroscopic methods, including Raman and UV−visnear-infrared spectroscopy as well as by scanning tunneling microscopy. Kinetics of coloration of anodic electrochromic films of WO3·H2O

Polycrystalline layers of WO3·H2O are obtained by anodization of tungsten in 1 N H2SO4 at 70° C. The cathodic reduction of these layers in acid solutions causes the formation of blue WO3−x·H2O (0<x⩽:0.12) oxides. The kinetics of coloration are investigated by galvanostatic and potentiostatic techniques. The experimental results are compared with the theoretical data obtained by solving the diffusion equation for a constant flow of oxygen vacancies and for a time-dependent surface vacancy concentration. Except in the initial stage of coloration, the process controlling rate can be ascribed to the diffusion of oxygen vacancies from the oxide-electrolyte interface into the bulk of the layers. …
Exact non-Markovian dynamics of Gaussian quantum channels: Finite-time and asymptotic regimes

We investigate the Markovian and non-Markovian dynamics of Gaussian quantum channels, exploiting a recently introduced necessary and sufficient criterion and the ensuing measure of non-Markovianity based on the violation of the divisibility property of the dynamical map. We compare the paradigmatic instances of Quantum Brownian motion (QBM) and Pure Damping (PD) channels, and for the former we find that the exact dynamical evolution is always non-Markovian in the finite-time as well as in the asymptotic regimes, for any nonvanishing value of the non-Markovianity parameter. Diffusion Acceleration in Randomly Switching Sawtooth Potential

We investigate an overdamped Brownian motion in symmetric sawtooth periodic potential switched by Markovian dichotomous noise between two configurations. The two configurations differ each other by a translation of half of period. The calculation of the effective diffusion coefficient is reduced to the mean first‐passage time problem, and we obtain the exact expression valid for arbitrary mean rate of switchings and arbitrary intensity of white Gaussian noise. We find the area at parameters plane where acceleration of diffusion in comparison with the free diffusion case takes place.
Antibacterial and white spot lesions preventive effect of an orthodontic resin modified with silver-nanoparticles

Background To evaluate the antibacterial property of a modified orthodontic resin with different concentrations of silver-nanoparticles (AgNPs), and quantify its preventive effect on the formation of white spot lesions (WSLs). Background: Active packaging represents a defining strategy to improve food quality and safety of the packaged foods. This study aimed to evaluate the in vitro ability of commercial biopolymeric foams, namely Mater-Bi (MB), activated with 20% of carvacrol, to develop a completely biodegradable and compostable packaging to inhibit the growth of spoilage and pathogenic yeasts.

Mosaic Qβ coats as a new presentation model

The new protein carrier was developed on the basis of recombinant RNA phage Qbeta capsid. C-terminal UGA extension of the short form of Qbeta coat, so-called A1 extension, served as a target for presentation of foreign peptides on the outer surface of mosaic Qbeta particles. In conditions of enhanced UGA suppression, the proportion of A1-extended to short coats in mosaic particles dropped from 48% to 14%, with an increase of the length of A1 extension. A model insertion, short preS1 epitope 31-DPAFR-35 of hepatitis B surface antigen, demonstrated superficial location on the mosaic Qbeta particles and ensured specific antigenicity and immunogenicity.
