Maximizing reading: pattern analysis to describe points of gaze

2006

As people read texts, their points of gaze can be described either as a sequence or as a pattern of dots. If reading fixations are visualized as a pattern and their duration is graphically attributed to the 3 rd dimension, image processing techniques can be employed to describe individual reading styles. Two reader groups of text editors and of University students were matching according to parametric tests. Yet they appeared to have marked inter-subject variability of fixation distribution when individual cases were considered. To illustrate this, we applied a simple "Coulomb law" - like model that takes both fixation duration and spacing into account. Further the image entropy filter was …

Gaze Parameters in the Analysis of Ambiguous Geometric Shapes.

2021

This study explores perceptual organisation and shape perception when viewing a tetragon and an additional element (a dot) that is located at varying positions and distances next to the tetragon. The aim of the study is to determine the factors that can alter the interpretation of object configuration and impact whether the presented tetragon is perceived as a diamond or a square. Methods used in this study are a forced-choice task as a subjective measurement and eye tracking as an objective measurement of perceptual processes. Overall, 31 stimuli were presented to the participants: a tetragon in two different sizes with an additional element (a dot) located inside or outside the object at…

The contribution proposes an analytical description of the Miscellaneous manuscript of Greek rites (Branc. I.B.6) preserved at the National Library of Naples. The code collects the consultation activities of the Congregatio…

2015

Portable microwave assisted extraction: An original concept for green analytical chemistry.

2013

International audience; This paper describes a portable microwave assisted extraction apparatus (PMAE) for extraction of bioac-tive compounds especially essential oils and aromas directly in a crop or in a forest. The developed procedure, based on the concept of green analytical chemistry, is appropriate to obtain direct in-field information about the level of essential oils in natural samples and to illustrate green chemical lesson and research. The efficiency of this experiment was validated for the extraction of essential oil of rosemary directly in a crop and allows obtaining a quantitative information on the content of essential oil, which was similar to that obtained by conventional m…

Animated Corpses: Communicating with Post Mortals in an Anatomical Exhibition

2006

‘Plastinates’ (i.e. corpses conserved through plastics) are lab created artifacts which since the nineties have been the subject of a cultural field experiment via an anatomical exhibition. Similarly to brain-dead or digitalized bodies, they constitute an ambiguous form of post-mortem existence. The article inquires after the ways in which the ontological status of these entities is constituted through the practices of body donors, anatomists and visitors. Plastinates owe their ambiguity to an oscillation between two different frames of perception. Their meaning is determined by the extent to which an anatomy exhibition can impose a ‘medical gaze’ over a non-professional way of perception, …

Topics and Argentine and Latin American Authors in Publishing Projects of the Galician Exiled in Argentina during the 40s

2016
