Understanding the consumption of plant-based meat alternatives and the role of health-related aspects. A study of the Italian market
2023
One possible solution to address some of the current health and environmental challenges we are facing is to choose plant-based meat alternatives (PBMAs). However, from the literature, the role of PBMA products in the consumer’s diet and whether they are a substitute for red meat consumption or if they only represent an enrichment function is not clear. Moreover, little is known about how health-related aspects affect consumer choices. This study tries to understand the role of PBMAs in consumption habits and the effects of health-related aspects in PBMA consumption. The results show that PBMA consumption occurs in substitution to red meat, and it is associated mainly with healthy and susta…

Coping Trajectories from Adolescence to Young Adulthood: Links to Attachment State of Mind
2005
The objective of this study was to examine the links between coping and attachment. In a longitudinal study of 112 participants, coping behavior was assessed at five points in time during adolescence (starting at the age of 14 years) and early adulthood. In addition, at the age of 21 years, state of mind regarding current and earlier attachment experiences was assessed by employing the Adult Attachment Interview (AAI). In both adolescence and early adulthood, differences in coping styles were found to be related to differences in attachment. Individuals classified as secure dealt with their problems more actively by using their social network during adolescence and at the age of 21 years. B…
Le vin et l’éveil des sens. L’expérience du goût en partage
2016
Care facilities for Germans in Thailand and Poland: making old age care abroad legitimate
2019
This article looks at old age care facilities abroad that target people who live in Germany. Such facilities have been established in Southeast Asia (mainly Thailand) and in Eastern Europe (mainly Poland). Given that they challenge central guiding orientations for old age care in Germany, considerable criticisms are levelled at them, and their use is viewed with distinct scepticism. Nevertheless, some of these facilities succeed in sustaining considerable demand from Germany over quite a few years. In this article, we therefore ask what strategies and arguments they use to make them a legitimate option for people in Germany and to be established on the German market. Based on two case studi…
Education for democratic citizenship in a digital culture
2011
Self-perception about emerging digital skills in higher education students
2020

Police violence in West Africa : Perpetrators' and ethnographers' dilemmas
2012
This article explores the use of violence by police officers and gendarmes in Ghana and Niger. We analyse how popular discourses, legal and organizational conditions frame the police use of violence. Acts of violence by police are situated in this inconsistent framework and can be seen as legal and appropriate, despicable and brutal, or as useful and morally legitimate. Thus, every time the police use violence, they face a major dilemma: legally and morally justified violence can be a source of long-term legitimacy; but because of multiple possible readings of a certain situation (according to different, conflicting moral and legal discourses), the very same action has potentially delegiti…
2019
The so-called transition to the digital paradigm is eroding the autonomy of the cultural field achieved during the XIX and XX Centuries, subjugating them to economic and technological dynamics. However, the hegemonic discourse tends to interpret this as an overall positive process for the creative domain, focusing on the increase in information resource and creativity tool availability. However, an analysis of the theories and concepts of the sociology of culture reveals a more ambivalent balance. While the notion of authorship and creation can be interpreted from a more cooperative and relativistic view it is arguable whether this concept can be eliminated altogether. Also, although cultur…
