Modelling a proportion response variable using generalised additive models for location scale and shape

In this paper two alternative approaches are proposed to model a response variable Y measured on the interval from zero to one, including both zero and one. The first proposed model employs a flexible four parameter distribution for 0 < Y < 1, for example a logit skew exponential power distribution, inflated by including point probabilities at 0 and 1. The second proposed model is a generalised Tobit model, obtained from a flexible four parameter distribution on (-infinity;+infinity), for example the skew exponential power distribution, by censoring below 0 and above 1. The proposed models are applied to a real data set and compared with current popular models.

Impact of Different Types of Fathers on Family Climate in Young Adulthood: A Multi-perspective Longitudinal Study on 14 to 27 Year Olds and their Fathers In a 13 year longitudinal study, the influence of three types of fathers on the family climate was analyzed. In a sample of 213 subjects, their 169 fathers and their 210 mothers, the family environment ( Family Environment Scales) was examined when the subjects were young adults (M = 26.89, SD = 1.32). The results of the study point to significant changes in family climate in those young adults who described their father as increasingly negative (N = 28) or distant (N = 11) when in adolescence. Abstract This study examined the extent to which children’s cognitive abilities in kindergarten and their mothers’ education predict their single-digit and procedural calculation skills and the covariance of these with reading skill in Grade 4. In kindergarten, we assessed children’s (N = 178) basic number skills, linguistic skills, and visual attention. In Grade 4, we assessed their calculation and reading skills. Data on children’s cognitive ability at 5 years of age and their mothers’ level of education were also collected. Cloud top altitude retrieved from Lidar measurements during ACLOUD at 1 second resolution

During the ACLOUD aircraft campaign (23.5.2017 - 26.6.2017) the AMALi Lidar was installed mostly nadir pointing. This dataset contains the cloud top altitude from those measurements (altitudes with a strong signal increase) as well as a cloud mask, derived from the optical depth of the column at 1 second resolution. The majority of the data was collected northwest of the Svalbard archipelago. Abstract The present study investigated the kinds of motivational patterns primary school students show in terms of the value they place on math, reading and writing, respectively, and the extent to which these patterns are prospectively associated with academic performance, and related to self-concept of ability. Two-hundred and eleven 6- to 7-year-old children were examined twice during Grade 1, and twice during Grade 2. When comparing oxygen consumption rates(V O2) of various organs — as shown in Fig. 1 —skeletal muscle is exceptional in two respects: Its consumption rate attains the second largest absolute value of all organs and may vary between rest (0.2 mlO 2.100g-1’• min -1 ) and maximum performance (16 m1O 2.100g-1 • min -1 for electrical stimulation) by a factor of 80, thus covering a range that is by far larger than in any other tissue. In order to understand muscle O 2 transport one has to identify transport mechanisms and evaluate their importance towards bringing about the observed high O 2 fluxes and allowing for their enormous variability.

Abstract This study examines the acquisition of expertise in designing and developing information systems. The aim was to investigate how practical experience is related to contextual and strategic knowledge in problem-solving. Using a combination of expert–novice comparisons and longitudinal methods, professional systems analysts were compared with novices at the beginning and end of a seven month project-based course. The results show that during the course, the novices acquired a good deal of strategic competence in using domain-specific methods. Self Calibrating Nano-Ruler

The aim of a nanoruler is to measure distances on a length scale in the order of nanometers. This concept can be realized by two plasmonic nanoparticles (usually spheres), which are placed within a short distance to each other. Since the plasmon modes of both particles are coupled, they influence each other along the interparticle axis (i.e. longitudinal plasmon mode, resulting in a shift of the resonance wavelength compared to the single particle. Because the resulting resonance wavelength depends on the interparticle distance, the spectral investigation of such a dimer allows the determination of the interparticle distance.
Teacher–child relationships and social competence: A two-year longitudinal study of Chinese preschoolers

Abstract Based on a two-year and three-wave longitudinal sample of 118 Chinese preschoolers, the present study examined the cross-lagged associations between teacher–child relationships and social competence, and the cross-system generalization of social competence between home and school. At each of the three waves, teachers rated the children's teacher–child relationships and social competence in school, and mothers rated the children's social competence at home. How does job insecurity relate to self-reported job performance? Analysing curvilinear associations in a longitudinal sample

The study focuses on the relationship between job insecurity and self-reported job performance. Based on theoretical, empirical, and statistical arguments, we propose that this relationship is U-shaped and mediated by vigour at work. This assumption was tested cross-sectionally and across two measurement points, and against two alternative explanations, namely that the U-shaped relationship might be due to the influence of the moderators optimism and supervisory support.
