Promoting Food Waste Reduction at Primary Schools. A Case Study

Food waste (FW) has recently attracted the interest of different institutions and has been the focus of many studies due to its important environmental, social and economic impact. This paper aims to analyze whether a didactic intervention, consisting of informing teachers and pupils and involving pupils in reducing FW, could bring about changes in the level of knowledge and attitude towards FW and in the amount of FW generated during the mid-morning break and lunch at schools. A two-dimensional numerical modelling that simulate the kinematic and thermal response of the lithosphere to thinning was used for the quantitative reconstruction of the late Neogene to Recent times tectonic and stratigraphic evolution of the North Sicily continental margin (southern Tyrrhenian Sea). More accuracy to the EROD measurements—The resorufin fluorescence differs between species and individuals

Ethoxyresorufin-O-deethylase (EROD) activity is a biomarker of exposure to planar aromatic hydrocarbons, and it is often measured from the S9 fraction. The effect of the liver S9 fraction of seven boreal freshwater fish species on the fluorescence of resorufin was studied. The S9 fractions diminished resorufin fluorescence by 40–80%, and there were large differences between species. Thus, using a resorufin standard curve without the S9 fraction leads to a large underestimation of the EROD activity. Taking Stock and Re-Examining the Role of Science Communication

Eight science communication research projects have been funded by the European Commission since 2018. These projects are a response to one of the European Commission's 'Science with and for Society' (SwafS) funding calls ¿ 'SwafS-19: Taking stock and re-examining the role of science communication.' Together these projects have received almost ¿10 million in research funding, and each has been affected to some extent by the COVID-19 global pandemic. This paper provides an overview of the eight projects, how they adapted to the challenges caused by the pandemic, and the subsequent implications for science communication policy and research funding.

Overview on SNIFFPHONE:A portable device for disease diagnosis

We present SNIFFPHONE, a handy and easy-To-use device that allows the non-invasive detection of gastric diseases. It analyzes the user's exhaled breath using specifically developed gas sensors. The device is coupled to a smartphone, which governs the breath analysis process, sends the data measurements to an external data analysis server, and finally gives feedback to the user. Covalent RGD modification of the inner pore surface of polycaprolactone scaffolds

Scaffold production for tissue engineering was demonstrated by means of a hot compression molding technique and subsequent particulate leaching. The utilization of spherical salt particles as the pore-forming agent ensured complete interconnectivity of the porous structure. This method obviated the use of potentially toxic organic solvents.
