Light and electron microscopical demonstration of methylene blue accumulation sites in taste buds of fish and mouse after supravital dye injection

Electron microscopical data regarding methylene blue staining of taste buds in the epithelia of the goldfish lip and the cirumvallate papilla of the mouse tongue after supravital dye application are presented for the first time. The ultrastructural details were compared with the corresponding light microscopical findings. The dye was applied in different concentrations by injection or in crystalline from directly to the surface of the tissues. Both methylene blue and tissue were simultaneously fixed by immersion in a paraformaldehyde-glutaraldehyde solution with the addition of phosphomolybdic acid. Around 10% of the worldwide annual production of gold is used for manufacturing of electronic devices. According to the European Commission, waste electric and electronic equipment is the fastest growing waste stream in the European Union. This has generated the need for an effective method to recover gold from electronic waste. Here, we report a simple, effective, and highly selective nylon-12-based three-dimensional (3D)-printed scavenger objects for gold recovery directly from an aqua regia extract of a printed circuit board waste. Deep oxidation of pollutants using gold deposited on a high surface area cobalt oxide prepared by a nanocasting route.

Gold deposited on a cobalt oxide with high surface area (138 m2 g−1), obtained through a nanocasting route using a siliceous KIT-6 mesoporous material as a hard template, has demonstrated high activity for the total oxidation of propane and toluene, and ambient temperature CO oxidation. The addition of gold promotes the activity when compared to a gold-free Co3O4 catalyst prepared using the same nanocasting technique. Intellectual disability (ID) corresponds to abnormal intellectual performances and adaptive functions, beginning in childhood. First principles investigations of Pd-on-Au nanostructures for trichloroethene catalytic removal from groundwater

Catalytic groundwater remediation from chlorinated organic solvents like trichloroethene (TCE) has been found to be more effective and sustainable than traditional non-destructive methods. Among the experimentally studied catalyst materials, Pd-decorated Au nanoparticles show the highest activity and selectivity combined with the best resistance towards poisoning by chemicals present in groundwater. In this study the thermochemistry and adsorption geometries of TCE and its hydrodechlorination products are investigated via density functional theory calculations. Gold nanoparticles/electrochemically expanded graphite composite: A bifunctional platform toward glucose sensing and SERS applications

Abstract An integrated nanogold/expanded graphite based sensor was fabricated by a former electrochemical etching of the pencil lead electrode (PLE) and a later in-situ deposition of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs). The electrochemical pretreatment of PLE (EPLE) created a 3D graphene-like surface, enhanced the electrode surface area and facilitated the electron transfer ability within 5 min without any hazardous chemicals added. The obtained AuNPs/EPLE sensor had an excellent electrochemical response to glucose with a wide linear concentration range, from 0.05 to 38 mM and 38 to 60 mM, and a low detection limit of 5 μM (S/N = 3). The fate of silver ions in the photochemical synthesis of gold nanorods: an Extended X-ray Absorption Fine Structure analysis

Water-soluble gold nanorods (Au NRs) were synthesized using a silver-ion mediated photochemical route under UV irradiation. Extended X-ray Absorption Fine Structure (EXAFS) measurements on the Ag K-edge were performed on samples obtained at different Ag/Au ratios and at increasing irradiation times in order to investigate the fate of silver ions during the growth of Au NRs. EXAFS measurements allowed to probe the chemical state and the local environment of silver in the final product.
