Formation of Variously Shaped Gold Nanoparticles by Anabaena laxa

Anew aspect of this study is the biocatalysis ability of Anabaena laxa—fresh-water strain—which to date has not been studied with respect to the formation of gold nanoparticles. The results of our study have shown that A. laxa is able to form gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) at good yields within 24 h of incubation at all three tested concentrations (0.1, 0.5 and 1 mM) of hydrogen tetrachloroaurate (III). After 24 h, nanoparticles were mostly localized in the growth medium, which significantly facilitates their isolation. Nanostructuring thin Au films on transparent conductive oxide substrates

Fabrication processes of Au nanostructures on indium-tin-oxide (ITO) surface by simple, versatile, and low-cost bottom-up methodologies are investigated in this work. A first methodology exploits the patterning effects induced by nanosecond laser irradiations on thin Au films deposited on ITO surface. We show that after the laser irradiations, the Au film break-up into nanoclusters whose mean size and surface density are tunable by the laser fluence. A second methodology exploits, instead, the patterning effects of standard furnace thermal processes on the Au film deposited on the ITO. Formation and Evolution of Nanoscale Metal Structures on ITO Surface by Nanosecond Laser Irradiations of Thin Au and Ag Films

The effect of nanosecond laser irradiations on 5 nm thick sputter-deposited Au and Ag films on Indium-Tin-Oxide surface is investigated by atomic force microscopy (AFM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). After 500, 750, and 1000 mJ/cm 2 fluence irradiations, the breakup of the Au and Ag films into nanoscale islands is observed as a consequence of fast melting and solidification processes. The mean nanoparticles size and surface density are quantified, as a function of the laser fluence, by the AFM and SEM analyses. Mild Homogeneous Synthesis of Gold Nanoparticles through the Epoxide Route: Kinetics, Mechanisms, and Related One‐Pot Composites

A new one-pot homogeneous methodology at room temperature to obtain Au nanoparticles (AuNP) on the basis of the epoxide route is presented. The proposed method takes advantage of the homogenous generation of OH- moieties driven by epoxide ring-opening, mediated by chloride nucleophilic attack. Once reached alkaline conditions, the reducing medium allows the quantitative formation of AuNP under well-defined kinetic control. A stabilizing agent, such as polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) or cetyltrimethylammonium chloride (CTAC), is required to maintain the AuNP stable. Abstract Metal nanostructures have unusual physicochemical properties and biological activities compared to their bulk parent materials. Thus in recent years a number of physical, chemical and biological techniques were applied for the development of metal nanoparticles (NP). Here we have synthesized silver and gold nanoparticles (AgNPs and AuNPs) by using leaves extracts of Rosa rugosa . The DNA origami technique provides an intriguing possibility to develop customized nanostructures for various bionanotechnological purposes. One target is to create tailored bottom-up-based plasmonic devices and metamaterials based on DNA metallization or controlled attachment of nanoparticles to the DNA designs. In this article, we demonstrate an alternative approach: DNA origami nanoshapes can be utilized in creating accurate, uniform and entirely metallic (e.g. gold, silver and copper) nanostructures on silicon substrates. Light scattering from single nanoparticles and nanostructures is a commonly used readout method for nanosensors. Increasing the spectral sensitivity of resonant nanosensors to changes in their local surrounding has been the focus of many studies. Switching from spectral to intensity monitoring allows one to investigate nonresonant or out-of-resonance dielectric nanoparticles. Here, we systematically compared such dielectric silica nanoparticles with plasmonic gold nanorods by deriving analytical expressions and by performing experiments.
