Evolution of the microstructure of sputter deposited TaAlON thin films with increasing oxygen partial pressure

Abstract Recently, quaternary oxynitrides of transition metals and aluminum have attracted increasing interest due to their tunable properties. Within the present work, a series of TaAl(O)N films was sputter deposited using constant nitrogen and varying oxygen partial pressures. The films were grown from single element Ta and Al targets. The deposition parameters were adjusted to obtain a Ta/Al atomic ratio of ~50/50 for the oxygen-free film and were held constant for the following depositions, with the exception of the increasing oxygen partial pressure and compensatory decreasing argon partial pressure. This paper presents a simple and general mathematical formulation for the determination of the differential leakage factor for both symmetrical and asymmetrical full and dead-coil windings of electrical machines. Determination of differential leakage factors in electrical machines with non-symmetrical full and dead-coil windings

In this paper Gorges polygons are used in conjunction with masses geometry to find an easy and affordable way to compute the differential leakage factor of non symmetrical full and dead coil winding. By following the traditional way, the use of the Ossanna's infinite series which has to be obviously truncated under the bound of a predetermined accuracy is mandatory. In the presented method no infinite series is instead required. An example is then shown and discussed to demonstrate practically the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Tailoring the anomalous Hall effect of SrRuO$_3$ thin films by strain: a first principles study

Motivated by the recently observed unconventional Hall effect in ultra-thin films of ferromagnetic SrRuO$_3$ (SRO) we investigate the effect of strain-induced oxygen octahedral distortion in the electronic structure and anomalous Hall response of the SRO ultra-thin films by virtue of density functional theory calculations. Our findings reveal that the ferromagnetic SRO films grown on SrTiO$_3$ (in-plane strain of $-$0.47$\%$) have an orthorhombic (both tilting and rotation) distorted structure and with an increasing amount of substrate-induced compressive strain the octahedral tilting angle is found to be suppressed gradually, with SRO films grown on NdGaO$_3$ (in-plane strain of $-$1.7$\%$…

An exact method for the determination of differential leakage factors in electrical machines with non-symmetrical windings

An exact and simple method for the determination of differential leakage factors in polyphase ac electrical machines with non-symmetrical windings is presented in this paper. The method relies on the properties of Gorges polygons that are used to transform an infinite series expressing the differential leakage factor into a finite sum in order to significantly simplify the calculations. Some examples are shown and discussed in order to practically demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

High-frequency electrodeless lamps in argon–mercury mixtures

In this paper, numerical and experimental investigations of high-frequency (HF) electrodeless lamps in argon–mercury mixtures are performed. The intensities of the mercury spectral lines having wavelengths λ = 404.66, 435.83, 546.07 nm (7 3S1–6 3P0,1,2) and the resonance line λ = 253.7 nm (6 3 P1–6 1S0) are measured at a wide range of mercury pressures, varying the HF generator current and argon filling pressure. A stationary self-consistent model of HF electrodeless discharge lamp is developed including kinetics of the excited mercury and argon atomic states. Ultra-Wide Band Gap in Two-Dimensional Phononic Crystal with Combined Convex and Concave Holes

A phononic crystal with an ultra‐wide band gap is proposed, whose unit cell consists of a cross‐like concave hole in the center and four square convex holes at the corners. The dispersion relations, modal kinetic energy ratio, and eigenmodes at edges of the band gaps are investigated by using the finite element method. The influence of the geometrical parameters of the convex and concave holes on the band gaps is further analyzed. After optimization, an ultra‐wide band gap with gap‐to‐midgap ratio of 156.0% is achieved, with the filling fraction keeping a relative small value.
